I just drove a car for the first time in three years

I have MAJOR driving anxiety and have gone out of my way to avoid driving since passing several years ago because I used to have panic attacks and I think I may have undiagnosed inattentive ADHD. I used to sweat and shake even just thinking about getting behind the wheel.

I've just driven our car, by myself, to pick my kids up from school and home again for the first time ever. I stayed really calm, took my time and even had some really tricky bits that I didn't panic over.

Is it weird I feel like I've achieved climbing Mount Everest or something?

Well done! Has anything happened to help you?

Amazing! Well done you, you should feel very proud. What changed so you could do it?

TheQueef · 25/04/2019 16:35

Hah! Well done Smile

Mainly just the fact it was getting a bit silly and I'm severely limiting my life/wasted a load of money to learn. Blush

Thing is I don't think I'm a particularly bad driver. It's mainly not trusting the other people on the road. I've been building up bit by bit and this was the first time going out by myself.

Feels like such a silly achievement. Grin

Well done. You'll get better with each run. Smile Actually you'd be amazed how common it is not to drive for quite a while after passing your test, whether it's because you can't afford/don't need a car, don't get on with your mum's old banger, don't have time to drive etc. Refresher lessons are always an option for when you need to brush up on things like motorway driving or parking or getting used to a new car.

Well done! One day you'll realise that you won't even think about driving

TheQueef · 25/04/2019 16:58

Keep at her now, try for a bit every day.
With it staying light later after the evening rush hour is nice to practice.
