Don't want to go into outing details but have had a lot of time out due to really stressful circumstances. Am really happy to be starting new role next week BUT

Am nervous, feeling huge amounts of imposter syndrome, lacking confidence and also have put on a lot of weight😣

Would appreciate any tips or advice for hitting the ground running. [Flowers]

Sorry to hear you've had a tough time.
Is it a new role in the same company or a completely new company?

Nevth · 25/04/2019 13:39

Hey OP. First of all, congrats on the new role! Great stuff!

I am always super nervous before starting a new job - and it always ends up being fine (sometimes great!). In reality, no one knows 100% what they're doing. Focus on what you're good at and what you can bring to the role/team. I don't know what the role is, but maybe you're a great organiser? Maybe you're great with people? Be enthusiastic and stay around if something out of the ordinary happens - in my career I have always learnt the most from when things go wrong (e.g. tech goes down, management changes their minds, etc).

They chose you - you're definitely good enough. Enjoy, and report back! Flowers

Thanks nevth!

I guess am worried they chose me but got a dud. I used to be very confident and have summoned a bit of this for interviews but inside feel really scared!

Ah, everyone feels that way. They didn't choose a dud. Imposter syndrome is so common, but in reality it doesn't really materialise! I manage a team of about 10 and a few months after being hired some have confessed to having felt that way. But practically they have all been great, especially the ones who recognise what their strengths/weaknesses are.

Best of luck OP - you'll do brilliantly.

take a deep breath.
Ask as many questions as you need to (particularly if you're not sure about details of the role or the company)
Write notes unless your memory is great.
Be particularly nice to the admin people, they're often the most helpful ones there.
You can do it!

Thank you!

Am Trying to think of nice ways to relax before the madness of next week. Is hard for me to not get anxious though

Really useful advice - thanks!
