Contraception

Ok so I'm in a new relationship and need to be on some form of contraception as there's no way in hell I want another child but I'm to young to get my tubes tied.

What would you recommend? I've had the implant before and found that ok but I'm not really clued up on others. I know I could talk it through with the doctor, and I will but I would like some first hand experiences too.

Well condoms are essential until you’ve both had a clear full screen including blood work, so for the first 3-6 months.

Otherwise it will depend on your age and health. Choices are usually pill, implant, injection, coil (copper or progesterone). Lesser used are diaphragm, cap, natural family planning, female condoms.

Definitely condoms until you have both had a full STI check.

Long term contraceptives are more convenient than the pill (and obviously you can’t forget to use them). The implant was terrible for me, I like the copper coil best because it’s hormone free.

Coils are great for long term contraception, there is a hormone and copper one. IUD and IUS

I love my copper coil. It's hormone-free and certain types of copper coil can last for up to 10 years (ask for a 10 year one when you go to the family planning clinic).
