Appealing a primary school place

On the development where we live (comprising of about 750 houses) there is a school with a one form entry. School opened about 4 years ago, it’s a CofE school so 10 places of the 30 are allocated to church places and the remaining for the usual i.e. looked after children, siblings, distance. 17 of the remainder have gone to siblings. One of the people I know who didn’t get a place (like us) is appealing on the grounds they are both work for the emergency services and would struggle to get their child to school on time and collect on time. Is this grounds for appeal?

Unfortunately what job you do has no bearing on appeal. There might be an exception where you are a police officer and can’t send your child to school where you have arrested lots of parents or are a social worker involved with lots of families at a certain school.

Most people who work are not able to drop and pick up from school and have to use wraparound childcare.

I don’t think working for the emergency service is a valid appeal point 🤷‍♀️ I’m sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly who will know the ins and outs.

No that wouldn't be grounds for an appeal. Very few KS1 appeals are allowed as the classes have to be kept to 30 children.

Thank you all for replying. It does seem ridiculous to build such a small school to serve so many people.
