Breakfast for a 6 year old

Hoping someone can help me!! I'm looking for ideas for breakfast for my 6 year old! She used to be really good at eating breakfast but recently it has become a massive struggle! She is not interested in toast, any cereals or porridge. I've also tried crumpets and croissants (which she used to love)! At the most she will manage a quarter of a slice of toast and even that is with me practically forcing her!

Does anyone have any ideas of anything else I could try??

Yogurt/fruit or just a chopped up banana in a bowl with raisins?

Sausages, eggybread, crackers, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, smoothie, sandwich, pancakes, bagel, muffin, cold meats, breadsticks, pitta, waffles, hash browns, part baked rolls

Granola covered in yogurt, boiled or scrambled egg and soldiers, pan au chocolate (though not a great start to the day),

My five year likes any combination of cheese, ham or other cold meat, fruit, yogurt, crackers.

My six year old is not a morning person, he gets picked up at 7:40 for school so it's a case of getting him up early enough to be awake enough to eat breakfast- he has an incredible appetite otherwise, things known to tempt him are babybel cheese, pate on toast, poached dippy egg, yoghurt and sliced grapes- sometimes he just wants a cup of milk and ten more minutes to come round- good luck.

What do you eat?

Boiled egg and soldiers, granola and yoghurt, skyr yoghurt, fruit salad, smoothie (especially if she helps you make it), oat cakes and grated cheese, cheesy oat cakes with marmite, peanut butter and raisin bagel, grated carrot and raisin wrap (I know, weird, but he liked them). Full English on Sunday.
Our youngest was quite a fuss pot generally but would usually go with one of the above.
He’s 16 now: Weetabix drink and an eat natural bar or cream cheese bagel on the bus now 🎉 Still full English on Sunday Grin

Does she like nuts at all?

My 7 year old who isn’t good with breakfast will eats nuts and some fruit or a smoothie made with milk with the nuts. Think because they are nibble-able.

Some good ideas here!! I've actually dug out the juicer and was thinking we could make some juices/smoothies and she could help me but was thinking it would be good for her to eat something, especially on school days. To be honest it's got to a point now where I would be happy for her to have just anything!!

I'm planning to try boiled eggs tomorrow so fingers crossed for that!!

Thank you for all the ideas!

Ilovecrumpets - she doesn't really eat nuts but I might give it a go with some fruit - fruit she will eat all day long if I let her!!

Langrish - I usually grab a slice of toast or have a bowl of cereal. She loves marmite so will try on oat cakes!

Its lovely on cheese oat cakes especially.
(I want marmite now 😁)

Smoothies are what work for my breakfast refusing 10yo. I tend to do fruit and yoghurt in them and I don't think it's too much worse than him eating the yoghurt with a piece of fruit and glass of milk /apple juice.

Mummyshark2018 · 24/04/2019 20:41

Sounds like she just doesn't want to eat. It's unlikely she will have gone off everything she used to eat. Is anything worrying her at school? Does she eat better on weekend mornings?

Millie2013 · 24/04/2019 21:20

We sometimes do a mini breakfast picnic, any combination of - blueberries/ strawberries/raspberries, sliced banana, small piece of crusty bread, cubed cheese, mini yoghurt, mini pancake. Calling it a “picnic” makes DD more inclined to eat it.
I also offer cheese toasties or crepes with melted cheese (crepes made the night before)
