Local and European Elections

I’ve googled this but couldn’t find any info.
Schools across the country are now being subjected to 2 days of disruption in May due to local elections on the 2nd then the Euro on the 23rd.
I’m just wondering why on Earth they can’t just delay local elections until the 23rd, or would that just be far too obvious and sensible? Anyone know why?

Local are all timetabled in law.

IN theory, EU elections may not go ahead. I'm not sure anything has been arranged to make them happen for definite.

I count votes in elections & not been asked about availability for European ones yet (2019). They aren't truly official, from what I can tell.

We’ve already been advised that the school will be used as a polling station on the 23rd Confused

"If they happen..." "If they go ahead..."

Brexit is the gift that keeps on giving. Deep divisions in the Tory party turned into a backlash by the marginalised & unhappy. Now everyone feels divided & unhappy. Such an achievement.

but given we’re in unprecedented times you’d think they could just make an exception. The government seem to be making all sorts of other exceptions to suit them at the moment, why not make one that actually makes sense for a change!

As far as I can see we’re working on the assumption & most likely scenario that they will be going ahead on the 23rd.

May wants a 4th chance at passing her deal. That would remove need for MEP elections. She's nothing to lose.

The entire Brexit fiasco is enormously disruptive & expensive (far more costs are due to Brexit than simply closing many schools). Closing schools is small beer.
