Do you Live in a tourist area? Blessing or curse?

We live in a tourist area, personally I see them as a blessing, yes they clog the roads at times, yes some leave litter. BUT their contribution to our economy enables our shops to operate 52 weeks of the year no empty high streets so on the whole they are of benefit to us. We know they are coming so plan our lives accordingly. We know the beaches they have not discovered so have our own fun. We enjoy the childrens activities which run for a whole spring summer season whether they are here or not.

Very touristy. As a nation we rely on them. They are here 24/7 all weathers, but during high season I avoid them buy going to the places they dont know about. And tgat is bloody bliss. They tend to stick to the guide book and i prefer it like that.

@ilovepixie Hi from another NCer Smile we’re in one of the holiday parks up the road! It’s a home from home and we feel very lucky to be able to escape down here whenever we want :)

I live near the O city..... tourists are a bit painful, particularly the ones that arrive in coachloads and move in packs. But then, I also do my shopping in a city with splendid architecture, beautiful city parks and opportunities to mooch into world class museums on a whim. I’ll take that compromise!

Having said that, Burford in August is at least the 5th circle of hell!

DH and I are seriously considering moving back to the touristy area I grew up in.

It does get stupidly busy in the summer. The payoff of stunning countryside and going to the beach whenever we want would be worth it.

I live just outside Blackpool
I hate the touristy bits and never visit
The town has one of the highest levels of poverty in the whole country
It seems the council prefer spending money keeping tourists happy rather than the locals

I live in between Durham and Newcastle. Newcastle doesn’t attract as many tourists as Durham (or maybe they are just more spread out as it’s bigger). Newcastle is worse for stag and hen dos because of the party scene but that’s largely confined to night time and in certain areas.
I’ve worked in Durham for years and the students are just as irritating as the tourists. Taking up the pavements and walking slowly. Thankfully the cathedral is up out of the main city so most head there.
There used to be real rivalry between the locals who would come to drink in Durham from the pit villages and the students. Not sure if that still happens as I rarely go out drinking in Durham now. We certainly benefit from some nicer bars from the students and tourists though.
