Maladaptive v 'normal' daydreaming

Can anyone explain the difference? I regularly daydream, went for a walk at lunch, got lost in a totally fictional tale (about people I know), when I walk home I will pick it up again, and again when I go to bed.

Does it matter, what impact does it have on your life? I had never heard of it until reading something here yesterday?

It’s when it takes over your life to the detriment of getting things done at home or at work.

You may also make arm movements as part of your imaginary dreaming which if you were in public would look most strange.

You are completely immersed in your day dreaming that hours could go by without your realising.

i do this when i'm on my way to work. its a good 45 minute walk and in my mind i take myself off to a nicer place.
i don't do any arm movements but i have started to smile slightly when something nice happens in my imaginary world, but i don't care.
it's better than thinking about the stress of everyday life and turning up for work miserable
it's my little escape room

If it negatively effects your life its classed as maladaptive. There are a few forums around and lots of research papers but its not actually a recognised condition.
