Just that really, need some inspiration. DD is get increasingly fussy and the sizes of meals she eats are ridiculously small. She's 7, very active but also underweight.

4 yr old- very small appetite but will eat a dish made with prawns cooked in a little garlic oil, handful peas, soft cheese stirred in served with rice by the plateful.
8 yr old- jacket potato with cheese and beans

11yr old - any pasta

graziemille567 · 24/04/2019 12:17

Spaghetti bolognese by a long mile.

Also loves chicken casserole, fish fingers, pesto pasta with peas and chicken. And anything with chips.

ScatteredMama82 · 24/04/2019 12:18

My 4 year old is quite fussy too. He would eat a ham sandwich every day for lunch. Does she like fruit? I try to get him to eat a couple of different kinds of fruit and veg a day. His main favourite things are:
beans, chilli, Bolognese, sausages, fish pie.

My eldest was quite fussy for a time too but now he eats virtually everything I offer him, with the exception of overly spicy things. I just kept offering him different things but not pushing it too much.

She loves spaghetti Bolognese, that is her firm favourite. She does like pasta so I suppose I need a few more pasta recipes to try.

She does like some fruit, she's good with apples, bananas, grapes and strawberries.

She's got very fussy with ham, sausages etc which she always ate before Hmm

DD (8) loves pizza breads that she can add her own ingredients to. She also loves plain boiled rice with peas and roast chicken chunks.
DS (9) loves pizza breads and omlettes.

formerbabe · 24/04/2019 12:27

Chicken burgers ...which are actually just grilled chicken breasts in a brioche bun

Sweet and sour chicken with rice

AtleastitsnotMonday · 24/04/2019 14:08

Could you try some pasta bakes. If she used to like sausages could you try sausage in a pasta sauce or toad in the hole?

hippoherostandinghere · 24/04/2019 14:41

Thanks, some good ideas. I could try some sausage pasta bakes. She's not great with pizza, she might like to make her own mini ones though. It's her portion size that stresses me out as well though.

Mine love jacket potatoes and roast dinners. They also like really random things like kedgeree, egg fried rice, mild coconut thai curry, salad leaves etc.

I find if they help me prepare stuff and are able to help themselves, then they're more likely to eat it.

Stravapalava · 24/04/2019 14:53

hippo if your DD likes pasta, will she try lasagna or gnocchi?

hippoherostandinghere · 24/04/2019 14:58

She likes lasagne, I haven't tried her with gnocchi, I could try that. She likes a roast, but has went off the school roast 🙄 she picks and chooses between school dinners according to the menu.

Pasta with tomatoey vegetable sauce

Fish curry

Chicken and veg fried rice

Chicken and veg noodles

Jacket potatoes

‘Picnic’ - sandwich, carrots, Pom bears etc

Roast chicken

Macaroni cheese

Fish and chips

Haloumi wrap

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/04/2019 15:03

Pasta is good because you can make several different calorie dense meals and put veg in there too. Plus garlic bread and salad on the side.

Macaroni cheese with ham and brocolli or mushrooms
Pasta in tomato sauce with hot dog type sausages or tuna, topped with cheese.
chicken and spinach or other veg in a creamy tomato or cheese sauce
spaghetti, mealballs tomato sauce and cheese.

etc etc

beela · 24/04/2019 15:44

My dc would eat pasta for every meal if I let them. Ds with bolognese, dd with just grated cheese.

However, I made dirty rice last night and that went down well:
pinchofnom.com/recipes/syn-free-cajun-dirty-rice-slimming-world/

Ignore all the bits about slimming world, it just looks like a normal recipe to me. I switched around some of the veg to stuff we all like.

Ivegotthree · 24/04/2019 15:52

Spag bol
Lasagne
Shepherds pie
Roast chicken
Sausages
Chicken kiev
Scrambled egg on toast with baked beans
Steak pie

happypotamus · 24/04/2019 16:13

Toad in the hole
Pizza
Pasta with peas and cheese (literally cook pasta and peas, sprinkle grated cheese over)

hippoherostandinghere · 24/04/2019 16:20

That dirty rice looks good, could give that a try, she does like rice, especially fried rice from the Chinese.

OP posts:
BarbaraofSevillle · 24/04/2019 16:23

You could fry the dirty rice in normal oil if you don't need it to be a diet recipe.

That's the only difference really, plus lean protein and plenty of veg, for the poster commenting about Slimming World recipes. I know that everyone on here think's that it's mug shots followed by muller lights, but it's really just fresh home made food, that's low fat plus a decent amount of veg.

Pie would also be good, with mash, veg and gravy. Either home made or decent shop bought one.

octopusrus · 24/04/2019 22:03

Leftover rice heated up with ham, pineapple and peas!

SallyWD · 24/04/2019 22:13

My kids are very fussy. They both like different things too. Favourites are:

pasta with pesto, sweetcorn and chunks of cheese
jacket potato with beans and cheese
Pizza
Spaghetti and meatballs in tomato sauce
Macaroni cheese
Beans on toast
Chicken goujons

beenhereages1 · 24/04/2019 22:13

DS1 (15) - toss up between Pizza, Ribs and Tacos

DS2 (10) - roast dinner

Total opposites , fortunately DS2 will give most things a go ( but would always prefer something traditional like roast or toad in the hole), whereas annoyingly DS1 is very stuck in his ways and hates traditional food Confused. Makes menu planning a nightmare as someone will be unhappy Grin

Clankboing · 24/04/2019 23:30

Pasta, pesto, pine nuts and feta. Tagliatelle made with Philadelphia cream cheese with corn on cob. Shepherds pie. Chilli, rice and nachos. Rice with sliced chicken. Tuna pasta bake. Scrambled egg on toast.

Clankboing · 24/04/2019 23:31

Sweet potato wedges.
