Are children missing out if they’ve never been abroad?

I never went abroad as a child or teenager due to finances however we went all over the uk, mainly on walking holidays, plus days out to museums etc and I think I had a better experience than some friends who had a week next to a concrete filled hole once a year in the sun. I aspire to take my child/children abroad however as I think experiencing different cultures and ways of life is so valuable. If you do museums, activities, talk about stuff, you don't need to go abroad. It's always nice if you can go on the odd trip if circumstances allow.

If they have relatives who travel abroad, they can help bring 'abroad' to them by bringing back souveniers. I often give leftover bits of money to my nephews, who have never been abroad, they love the different shaped coins, ones with holes in, or wedges of notes that are worth about £2 in total.

This reminds me of the Bottom episode where Eddie is making his own money. When the landlord is skeptical of a triangular note, his explanation is that it's Welsh money.

I went abroad lots as a child and what I really longed for was one of the U.K. seaside caravan holidays some of my friends spoke of
And I’ve raised a child who loves U.K. caravan holidays. She’s been abroad twice (at just turned 6), but it’s the Haven breaks she speaks of most
