Tell me what to do

I am in a fixed term job with a year remaining. I don't want to leave my employers in the shit. However, I have seen an advert for a permanent job, same pay that is close to home and I would stand a very good chance of getting. The interview date is right in the middle of 3 days of training which is very important to me (I paid a lot of money for it) and requires 8 weeks notice to change penalty free. We are much, much less than 8 weeks away from this date.

My original plan was to a. hope that something will come out of this temp job (no promises there though) and b. try to get a job in a different area near the end of the fixed term. (I have had an interview for a job in a different area and they said I smashed the interview, but was truly beaten by others with far more experience. These jobs don't come up too often as there aren't too many of them in my area or a commutable area.)

My options are now I suppose to a) let the job opportunity pass, you never know what else will happen in a year. b) try to beg half a day out of the training to travel to the interview and try to attend the half day another time. Loooong shot.

Someone tell me what to do.

Ask if they could accommodate you another day for the job interview?

Ah I didn't mention that. I already did and it isn't possible.

Is the interview close to the training course? Could you ask for the time to be either early morning or late afternoon and then try and do both?

It is about an hour and a half away. If the interview could be scheduled for say, 4pm, I would have to leave at around 2/2.30, missing 2 and a bit hours of training which I would have to make up somehow to complete and be certificated. I could ask.

I think I would do that or better still an early morning interview at 8am and then all being well you could potentially be at the training for 10. Good luck!
