What (if anything) can replace an iPod to listen to downloads from iTunes?

I had a £120 iPod for years that has just bitten the dust. There doesn’t seem to be anything to replace it with. I don’t want to buy an iPhone as I am happy with my android. I can play things on the iPad, but it is not mobile enough for what I need.

I think you can download Apple Music for android, listen to your downloads that way? I'm just guessing though as I use spotify. Sorry, that might be completely unhelpful.

MotherOfGodFella · 23/04/2019 22:33

You can do I think but Apple Music is £9.99 a month.

Could you get a basic second hand iPod from eBay?

TheInebriati · 23/04/2019 22:35

Try Audacity to convert the files but I think you'd have to do them one by one.

File - Export As - WAV for full audio and
File - Export As - MP3 for compressed audio for an MP3 or mobile device.

Just buy another iPod.

Pootle40 · 23/04/2019 22:36

An iPod touch?

mookinsx · 23/04/2019 22:37

Use CEX for a new iPod

ThunderStorms · 23/04/2019 22:39

The cheapest iPod is now £199, the next memory size up is c.£279. iPods have apparently been discontinued. I only need something to play the music on (not interested in anything else). I can’t afford monthly subscriptions. I was looking at mp3 type things, but they seem to have moved on as well.

So you want to listen to iTunes but you don’t want to use an apple product? Tough luck I’m afraid.

BikeRunSki · 23/04/2019 22:43

Second hand iPod. eBay, CEX, Music Magpie.

CEX is a chrjbdbif shops/website to buy:sell secondhand tech, computer games etc.,

ThunderStorms · 23/04/2019 22:45

I have both apple products and android.

I had Sad and iPod nano.
I have a iPad, but this is not portable enough for music listening.

I have an android phone, which I pay very little for monthly.

I wanted to get another little iPod, but they have been discontinued. I dint want to pay £££ for something portable (same as my phone) because of damage/ loss worry.

I am now trying to find out what alternatives are out there.

Husband has an dd cardbin his Samsung galaxy phone and plays them straight from that. Could that be an option?

Cex is a shop that sells pre owned electronics. But pricier than eBay but you get a warranty. I just got my phone from there last month and found out it's pronounced "sex". I'd need spelling the initials forever. Staff thought it was hilarious!

Do you have amazon prime by any chance OP?

ThunderStorms · 23/04/2019 22:50

Yes I have amazon prime.

I was in the same boat OP

My iPod was much mourned when it died after ten plus years faithful service. I replaced it with a Sony NW-A35 which you can get an additional micro so card to increase capacity up to 128 go. The software for it is called MediaGo. It won't sync with iTunes and it won't read m4b audiobook files but this has very nearly ticked all the boxes for me. It's around the £100 mark.

w0man · 23/04/2019 23:11

Ok amazon prime should include their music streaming service too. Not everyone is free just like with their tv service, a lot is included with the package though.

Install amazon music from google play store, sign in with your amazon credentials and you should be able to stream the music or download to your device to listen offline.

I pay £7.99 a month for amazon prime, instead of all in one go, I get unlimited next day free delivery, their tv service, their music service, kindle borrowing and online photo storage too.

w0man · 23/04/2019 23:14

Auto correct.

I meant an sd card. It's a memory card and great for putting photos and music on to view and listen on your phone. Great for increasing the memory for a small cost. Unlike Apple who don't have memory card slots and charge a fucking fortune for memory

Which phone do you have and I'll have a look for you if you like but if you've got amazon prime you might not need to load a card up.
