Where to buy clothes for very tall 8yo DD?

Just tried on all of DD’s summer clothes from last year and surprise surprise, nothing fits. She’s the height of an average 11 year old but even with adjustable waists, things just fall off her. We usually shops in John Lewis, Jigsaw, Polarn O Pyret, Gap, the odd thing from Boden plus basics from Next & Sainsbury’s but none do a longer length. School uniform is less of an issue as M&S do longer lengths. Where else can I try? What the hell am I going to do in a year or twowhen a lot of children’s ranges stop at 12!

I have the same with my 9 year old who is very tall and slim. Johnnie B do some clothes in 13+ age range which I have bought her for this year, but I am sad she doesn't fit into any John Lewis things anymore as they stop at 11-12. I too am wondering where we will go next!

Just remembered we got a few things from next in their older range. Clothes often don't fit her well in the waist and she usually has to wear crop tops underneath tops as they gape at the arms/underarms.

I have a very tall 9 year old tho she isn't as slim. She likes wearing leggings so less of an issue with the waist but she gets a lot from H&M, M&S. They both go up to at least age 14. She has recently discovered a liking for New Look but some of their stuff is a bit too old for her.
What sort of things does your DD like to wear? Mine likes leggings or shorts so less of an issue with the waist and a variety of tops.

H&m zara

TattiePants · 23/04/2019 22:23

That’s the problem, to get the length anywhere close they gape under the arms, fall off the shoulder etc. Next and Boden longer lengths in jeans are great but nowhere does longer tops. Surely shops realise that tall people are long all over not just their legs! I constantly have this problem too!

I forgot Zara! Mango do kids clothes too.

TattiePants · 23/04/2019 22:30

I haven’t looked at Zara for a while (I hate their website) so will give that a try. H&M too. She’s still quite girly so likes twirly skirts and sparkly T-shirts but does wear a lot of skinny jeans & leggings.

I’ve ordered about £500 of clothes from JL, Gap, next and M&S tonight it a variety of styles and sizes but I can see most of it going back!

Never tried Mango for kids clothes.

DD had that problem at that age as she had a long back before her major growth spurt so t shirts and dresses were a challenge.

Boden and M&S seem more suitable for larger framed girls. Petit Bateau is great for skinny kids, but you do need to go by height and then up at least one. Look for it on EBay perhaps if it seems pricey. French/Spanish brands seem to come up skinnier.

We are lucky that our local Gap was forever selling off older ages cheaply. We have found them good for jeans and shorts etc.

H&M and Zara are worth a look too. We tend to buy online.

We also like Protest (Dutch), who do cater for tall kids but it focuses on beach/ski stuff.

Don't get me started on shoes - 6 1/2 for DD(11)!

TattiePants · 23/04/2019 22:47

I didn’t realise Petit Bateau did children’s clothes. I used to love their baby clothes. I’ll take a look at Protest too.

I feel your pain with shoe sizes. DD has D width feet which makes sandals an absolute nightmare as even Clark’s and Startrite start at F. I was going to give Salt-water sandals a try until I realised she would need an adult size at aged 8 (at the adult price of course).

Shoes are a nightmare here! DD is a size 4 but has inherited my narrow feet so sandals are often like boats.
I have less of an issue with sandals as an adult but can't ever get shoes to fit (boots and trainers fine). Annoys me shops do wide fit but not narrow fit.

Madcats · 24/04/2019 06:57

Petit Bateau do up to age 20 and some adult stuff. XL is about a size 12 for tops/coats (based on Boden/Joules sizing).

I seem to remember that Vertbaudet did/do several child body sizes?

bruffin · 24/04/2019 07:04

La redoute or Verbaudet gobup to teens sizes and tend to be on thinner side.
