I've just inserted a mooncup....

Actually it was a GRRRL CUP. It was frighteningly easy. I didn't think it would be. I can't feel it, but how do I know it's fitted properly, so I won't leak?

Have you checked its opened back up? I pinch mine just above the stalk and see if I can twist it so i know its open, I also tilt it back slightly as I have a tilted uterus so if I don't I can have leaks.

It took me a few months to work out the best way to insert and position, been using mine several years now and the only time I get a leak is when I get up in the morning I sometimes feel a small dribble even if it's not full up.

FennyBridges · 23/04/2019 20:10

Thanks I will do that. That's just the kind of tip o needed. I have a tilted cervix. Is that the same as a tilted uterus?

My rule of thumb....
If i couldn't feel it, it wouldn't leak. If i could feel it, it did. But the first few attempts i always used a pad as a precaution too.

FennyBridges · 23/04/2019 20:24

Thank you. I've done @AllGoodDog 's tip when I reinserted it, and I'm pretty sure it's in correctly... And I can't feel it! I'll wear a pad tonight and one tomorrow (could be a disaster as I'm a teacher 😲) and I think I'm good to go!

Don't want to wear a pad alongside it usually though.

Yes same thing as far as I'm aware. Hope you're getting on OK with it. As @WidoWanky said you shouldn't be able to feel it 😊

FennyBridges · 24/04/2019 21:31

Yes I can't feel it as such. I've had no leaks but I'm not heavy yet.

It makes me feel a bit dizzy at times, and full. I took it out when I got in from work. Every now and then it takes my head a while to catch up with my eyes. Does that make any sense?

Make sure you give it half a twist after inserting as that's what seals it and stops any leaks. I've just replaced one,I had it for 12 years,it would've lasted longer but I lost it ( don't askHmm)

TwinkleMerrick · 24/04/2019 21:35

I'm really interested in your experience. I just bought some washable pads to use as I'm a bit apprehensive about the moon cup. I find tampons a bit uncomfortable after having DD so not sure how I would get on. How did you know what size to get? Thanks for sharing Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/04/2019 21:35

Actually,I think it was 14 years old. It was years old anyway!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/04/2019 21:37

Wrt sizing- each brand will tell you what size to get according to age and if you've given birth iirc.

FennyBridges · 24/04/2019 22:05

I bought a large one because I am over 40 and have two DC. However, today I've bought I small because I can feel it. Not like when you're using tampons for the first time as a teenager and it's clearly not inside enough. It makes me feel full and it's worse when I'm lying down. I wore it at work all day though. I'm a smallish person so I wondered if there's not much room in there!

Careful now. I had one of those go on fire once.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 24/04/2019 22:16

I can always feel mine - not uncomfortably, just an awareness of it being I iyswim? It's only leaked once in about 2 years and that was my fault as I'd had it in about 12 hours as I forgot to empty it.
Hope you're getting on ok with it, ☺

FennyBridges · 25/04/2019 21:22

I had a minor leak today. When I got home the smaller one had arrived, so I tried it out - and major leak. It seems having 2 DC and being over 40 does warrant a larger one in my case!

I can't feel it inside like I did to start with. I find it hard to make sure a seal is formed; I think that's responsible for both leaks (possibly not the smaller size). I'm find it hugely tricky to twist it to make a seal.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/04/2019 21:27

You need to hold the bottom of it and give it a twist,is that what your doing?

FennyBridges · 26/04/2019 05:59

Yes. Trying to. It's so far up it's tricky so I think it's hit and miss until I get used to it!

Mine shoots off upwards and I can't reach it unless I push it out and start again, but I've learnt how it feels if it's ended up on its side. And how it feels if it's got full and started to push itself down.

Sometimes seems like a full bladder and need to poo a lot, just because of lack of space, but it's still the best solution by far for me.

Heulog · 26/04/2019 06:49

I've been using one for about a year, I had a few months of minor leaks, because it sometimes stayed folded when inserted. The game changer for me is to wear mine 'inside out' so the stalk is inside the cup, and when I rinse it I use really cold water so it stiffens up the silicone, when it's less floppy it pops open easily. If it's warm and soft it doesn't always pop.

ImpracticalCape · 26/04/2019 06:51

You shouldn't be able to feel it. If you can, it's not far up enough. I've tried a couple of cups and anything other than the original mooncup seems to get stuck in a folded position.
You might feel a bubbly type sensation which is just the suction sorting itself out but in 5 years of using a mooncup I've never had a leak and I leave mine in for a whole day at work and then a while overnight

FennyBridges · 26/04/2019 19:50

Now I'm used to it I can't feel it. I've had minor leaks today. I think this is actually where the cup has been full up! I've lost 15ml three times and I think by the time it's squeezed up inside the cup is fuller so it overflowed. So at work I had to empty it three times!

I had no idea my period was that heavy, but I do have a copper coil.

I'm much better at inserting it. I'm going to persevere all weekend, and I'm away too. Thanks for all the comments and advice, I've needed it all. Keep on advising and sharing experiences!

I've had one for about 10 years now and absolutely love it. There only time I leaked I'd actually taking it out and put it on the side and forgotten to put it back in again....

I find it really helps with cramps and dryness and as soon as mine is in I forget it is in.
