What are your camping essentials with kids?

We camp a lot with kids and I'm wondering if there's anything I'm missing out on.

Mine would be:

Wee bucket, lined with bag and bivvy loo powder. I'm not traipsing through a field at 3am with a three year old.

Uno, easy to transport game that is good for when it's raining outside.

A couple of those giant interlocking foam squares to stand on for taking off shoes before going into the tent, so you don't get grass etc inside.

Glow sticks for the kids at night time.

Biscuits to ward off early morning hunger

Bikes
Wellies/crocs
Small site so the kids can roam free

For teenagers? Portable phone charger!!!

Ive seen people recommend the use of a disposable nappy in a wee bag.

For littlies - colouring. ONE cuddle toy from home.

Fleece blankets

Depends on the age of your kids but for us we had a portable DVD player and some films. My 2 always got up early (about 6.30 - 7am) and as it's my holiday too they learnt to put headphones on and watch a DVD in bed before waking me and DH.

Now they are a bit older they have progressed to tablets each.

Drinks in a water bottle so less chance of spills over everything!

Flagpole and flag ... Makes it easy for kids and adults to locate tent in a busy field.

I HATE the foam Squares- bought a load after reading it here and found them bulky, messy quickly and annoying.

Mine are small so I always print off a nature hunt tick list to occupy them whilst the tent goes up

A deck of cards, audio books, and skipping ropes rank highly too.

Cakes and crisps- more than I think, and more again Blush

  • Hot water bottles
  • Pegs
  • Onesies one size bigger so they can zip them over their clothes
  • S hooks
  • Crayons and colouring books
  • Astronomy app on our iPad proved a real winner last week.
  • Some kind of ball game will keep them entertained for hours - our kids basically turn into dogs when we go camping. Grin
  • Waterproof clothes and wellies for the morning when the grass is damp and also for those rainy days.
  • Frisbee
  • Cards
  • Pass the pigs
  • Sticker books
  • Old digital camera

Instant food to keep them quiet:

  • Brioche rolls and jam or cold meats and cheeses
  • Cream crackers/water crackers/oat cakes
  • Peanut butter
  • We always put ice pops or ice lollies in our cool box (we have an Icey tek, so they stay frozen) and hand them out when we arrive - we then set up swing ball and those two keep them occupied whilst we set up camp.

Some great suggestions here, thanks all.
