Volcano spot on my face!

bloatedbird · 23/04/2019 13:01

I'm 43 FFS .... and when I get a spot it's literally the size of a volcano.

It's angry, red and hurts.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

I've ordered the wand thing from neutrogena

The problem is I also have severe dehydrated, dry, ageing skin so "drying it out" is not practical as it's already dry like desert

If you hve ageing skin then even better. All the stuff that is good for acne is anti-ageing.

Moisturise with Cerave and you are done.

ImTheRealHFella · 23/04/2019 20:41

Yes, my skin loves acid toning and retinol.

Both are helping the spots and the wrinkles. Try nip+fab glycolic pads and a low retinol like indeed labs.

If your skin is oily then the ordinary niacinamide and zinc is brilliant

@ImTheRealHFella I have severe dry, dehydrated and ageing skin. Retinol is out as my face flakes anyway

I just get these volcanic spots every month or so.

I'm embarrassed to go into work tomorrow!

I could not go out with a spot with a head on it.

I’d rather stick a plaster on it if I had one as large as yours.

FiremanKing · 23/04/2019 21:13

Sorry that sounds horrible.

I mean I understand your worry.

To stop it weeping you can buy an alum shaving stick to dry it up and apply concealer over the top. You don’t get the cornflake scab then.

Vegisgrowingwell · 23/04/2019 21:14

Witchhazel has made a real difference to my spots! I need to remember to keep doing it each night

MairzyDoats · 23/04/2019 21:17

Please go and get a hot compress to draw it out... I don't know how you have the willpower to leave it!!

AnnaMagnani · 23/04/2019 22:05

I know you think we are mad but if it's flaking it wants to exfoliate.

And it can't be that dry, it's making a great big oily spot every month.

It wants hydration and exfoliation.

ImTheRealHFella · 23/04/2019 23:28

Absolutely. My skin is dry and spotty.

The dryness means it doesn't seem to turn over skin cells well. So I get spots caused by the build up. Big cystic ones and smaller ones too.

A better cleansing and exfoliation regime (chemical, not scrubbing) and decent moisturiser twice daily has really helped shift the build up and my skin is far better. It was worse at first. But now, it's definitely more glowy, far fewer big spots and the small ones get dealt with before they take over my face .

Chilledout11 · 23/04/2019 23:34

Looks really sore buy I would soak a flannel in warm water to try and draw it out.

Vegisgrowingwell · 25/04/2019 19:00

How is it OP?

bloatedbird · 25/04/2019 19:49

I've bought Cerave to moisturise and I need to understand more about retinol.

I'll take a photo it's still angry and nasty :(

FiremanKing · 25/04/2019 19:50

I bow down to your willpower.

I’d have squeezed that fucker to oblivion by now.

bloatedbird · 25/04/2019 19:53

It's looking like it wilL NEVER go! Another head has appeared on it.

I am scared to pop it because it will be even MORE red.

What about mag paste on it? Frederm? Help!

3 days it's been like this. It gets me down

OP posts:
Atalune · 25/04/2019 20:04

Have you tried to draw it out?

Mag sulph- it does help to draw it out.

FiremanKing · 25/04/2019 20:12

It’s odd because the rest of your skin looks fine.

It has a vendetta against you!

doctorboo · 25/04/2019 20:42

Have you tried gently sticking a needle in the biggest head and then popping a hot flannel over it?
Lancing it and using the heat to draw the pus out shouldn’t make it any redder. I have horrible cystic acne and this is my go to before I whack on a blob of antiseptic cream.

bloatedbird · 26/04/2019 06:43

@FiremanKing exactly! The rest of my skin is normal, ageing and dehydrated skin

Yet my little (large) volcanic friend arrives every now and then it seems to want to stay!!!

I may go for the pin method this morning, I have a meeting at 10:30 and I know people will just be looking and thinking "do you think she knows about that enormous spot?"

WingBingo · 26/04/2019 07:41

I’ll share my recent monstrosity with you in solidarity. Epiduo has really helped my skin but it is drying, so probably not for you.

Beanybye · 26/04/2019 08:00

You need to invest in a decent concealer. No need to suffer the embarrassment when there’s so many great products on the market. You need a green colour correcting one to take the redness out and then a normal one on top. The collection lasting perfection are good and inexpensive.

Beanybye · 26/04/2019 08:01

These

FiremanKing · 26/04/2019 08:03

And an alum stick/styptic pencil to ‘seal’ it and stop any ooze from breaking through the concealer do that the ooze turns the colour of the concealer and you’re walking around with what looks like a cornflake on your face.

FreeButtonBee · 26/04/2019 20:22

You need to try these bad boys (or something like them)

sokoglam.com/products/cosrx-acne-pimple-master-patch

Draws out all the crap, stops it getting infected. Doesn’t dry out rest of the skin. They are supposed to be amazing

I would also recommend p50 (if you can get it) or pixiglow (which is more widely available) for acid exfoliation. Then a really light hydrating serum (like the ordinary hydraluronic one or Vichy) and then your moisturiser.
