My ds wart is ‘terrifying’

Ds, 5, has had a wart on his hand for about six weeks. I took him to the doctors five weeks ago and she was quite vague about what to do. Just said get some stuff from the pharmacy and it’ll be gone within TWO YEARS!!!!

We have frozen it twice and it is getting bigger and bigger. It’s split and ds described it as terrifying. It does look awful although he says it doesn’t hurt.

Mumsnet wisdom I need your ideas and comfort - it will go won’t it?
Shall we take him to have it lasered off?

Help!

Laser it. I started out with one on my finger and by the time I was 11 and ready for high school I had SEVENTEEN!

Imagine! I had to begin high school with warty hands. My parents just hadn't treated them...eventually they got me some stuff and that worked. But to save it spreading deal with it now.

Did you misunderstand the doctor? Warts generally disappear spontaneously within around two years if left untreated.
The stuff from the pharmacy should see it off a hell of a lot quicker.

Laser it.

My DS had a huge wart on his knee, it was the size of a pea!

My DH did the old folk remedy of rubbing it with a tiny piece of raw meat, then we gave DS the bit of meat and he had to go and bury it in the garden.

It was a bit of pantomime, and we all thought DH was bonkers, but it was gone within ten days Shock.

Try it, you have absolutely nothing to lose, your DS will probably enjoy it, but make sure hands are well washed!

Stupid question but how do you find the laser treatment? Do I look on line for a dermatologist? My DS also has a large wart.

Mumofboys95 · 23/04/2019 10:44

My son had a wart on his toe and it was huge and nothing got rid of it!

We heard about picking a dandelion and squeezing the white stuff that comes from the stem on it a few times a day, so we did And after a few days it went black then after a week it fell off!

I would definitely try it it left a small crater but I just put germoline sp? On it and a plaster and it healed brilliantly

Thanks everyone for sharing their thoughts. Henny - that sounds really tough. I had a face full of acne and I would not want to go back to those teenage years.

Maybe I did misunderstand about it taking two years if left untreated.

I just googled lasering it off and I contacted spire private hospital to see if they treat children. I chose that one because of it proximity and not because I know anything about private hospitals.

Look at the information on the box from the stuff you are treating it with. Does it say how long until it should be effective? Go back to the pharmacy and see what they say about the current treatment and how long it should take to work and what stages the wart might go through in the meantime. Lasering will be a much more expensive option but clinics should be able to give you a rough price over the phone.

Tea tree oil dabbed on once a day killed DS's wart.

TerryWogansWilly · 23/04/2019 16:35

If you google duct tape (no, really) apparently it works better than proper wart treatments and is even on NHS websites.
