We're struggling to conceive dc2 and I think hearing some positive 3.5yr+ age gap stories would help cheer me up! Anyone got any?We wanted a two year gap, but that's long gone now! I keep seeing siblings playing together and getting a bit very jealous.

3 years 5 months between our’s (wanted 2-2.5yrs ideally!), and they get on super well. Only shame is that there’s 4 school years difference and they miss each other when the eldest is at school! Still over a year til the younger goes.

We want a third, but it’s taking ages. Didn’t even try until approaching what would be a 3 year age gap but have had a very complicated miscarriage which has certainly delayed us by at least 5 months and possibly more as not fully resolved yet, but I’m relaxed about it-not that it makes much difference, but I now feel that whatever you end up with you find works well for unforeseen reasons and you find the positives in that set up. Also our youngest is so cute and funny and he wouldn’t have existed if we’d had a second sooner 😊

There is 3.9 between dd1 and dd2 and 3.4 between dd2 and dd3.

Close enough to be company for each other but big enough different for me to enjoy each of them as babies. Odd fights growing up but generally rubbed along well together

They are now 24, 20 and 17 and get on very well, off camping for a night together tomorrow.

4.5 years between my two. Ds1 adores ds2 with all his heart. He loves to help look after him and I’m so glad we had this age gap. Wouldn’t have it any other way!

6 yrs between ds & dd, they are 24 &18 and very close

My dB is 12 years older than me & ds is 10... they are not close despite 2 yr age gap but I am close to both

Ive got 3.2 between mine. The older one gives the younger one a bit of slack and they cuddle quite a lot. They always take food or drink to the other one. Playing depends on what it is because the eldest has asd.

Exactly 3.5 years and it's fine. Lovely when baby is little as bigger one doesn't have to be watched like such a hawk and if big one is a girl will make very sweet attempts to mother little one! The gap narrows as they get older.

I'm going to write myself a list of pros for if I do ever have a dc2

  1. Won't need to buy a double buggy!
  2. Not having two in nursery at the same time
  3. Being able to do school drop off and pick up whilst I'm on maternity leave
  4. Having a little helper
  5. Not having to get two little people dressed at the same time as the older one could do it themselves

What else should I add to my list?

And thank you everyone for your stories

  1. Not having to try and look after a baby while worrying older one will run off and need chasing although she is still doing that at nearly 3 so may happen forever

I have a dd and dd with 4 years 1 month gap and they absolutely adore each other at the moment- he is an excellent big brother and they play together with minimal issues. There’s 4 years and 1 month between myself and my brother and we always have had a really good relationship with no rocky years.

Coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz · 21/04/2019 21:48

Should be ds and dd

TheVanguardSix · 21/04/2019 21:51

Why assume 3.5 year gap is negative? Most kids I know with close age gaps aren’t BFFs at all! Some absolutely hate each other.

TheVanguardSix · 21/04/2019 21:54

DC3 and DC2 have 4 years apart. I love that I’ve been able to give my children all of me. I wasn’t strung out with two under two.

My brother is 3.5 years older than me. My world would shatter if he weren’t in it. He is my best friend! I’m 47 by the way.

happypotamus · 21/04/2019 22:14

There is 3.6year age gap between my DC (currently 4 and 7), and it has been great so far. Got to spend time with DC2 while DC1 was at nursery then school, DC1 was reasonably independent when DC2 was tiny. I worried that they wouldn't be interested in the same things, but so far they are and enjoy playing together.
