Easter Egg Hunt - HELP!

BallsOfFluff · 20/04/2019 21:05

I'm doing an Easter Egg Hunt for my DD3 tomorrow. It'll be her very first one and I want to make it just right.

I had it all planned but now I'm having a wobble because of the heat. If I hide the eggs in the garden they'll have melted by the time she finds them (quite a large space.)

I know it makes sense to hide them indoors but I have no idea how to hide them while she's running about indoors without her seeing me. Also, I had really imaginative ideas for outside but indoors I am stumped.

Anyone got any ideas of hiding spaces/how to do it?

Oven if you aren't cooking
Top of the spare toilet roll (took Dd1 ages with this one even though she went to the loo a couple of times)
Under the stairs
In a pile of teddies
Breadbin

Is there a teddy pile on the bed?

Under a pile of towels in the bathroom

Inside favourite toy (dolls house or pirate ship)

In shoes/wellies
In the washing machine (switched off, empty!)
Any plant pots in the house you can hide them in?
Under beds
Laundry basket
On dining chairs
Behind the TV
Behind curtains

I do this every year!

Hide them tonight of course!

Stompythedinosaur · 20/04/2019 21:31

I'd hide them outside, but only put them out just before the dc start looking. We did this for our village egg hunt today and it was fine.

KneelJustKneel · 20/04/2019 21:31

We do a trail with clues and the eggs at the end. Easy to set out the night before and less chance of sticjy chocolatey mess being found a few days later in odd places!

BallsOfFluff · 20/04/2019 22:40

I would hide them tonight but I have a dog! The pooch would expertly sniff them out in seconds.

Very good ideas here though. I hadn't thought of hiding them outdoors just before I let her loose.
If I can get someone to take her to the park for an hour in the morning I'll set them out then. You're all a lot more imaginative than me Grin

@Foslady there is! More teddies than space.

@KneelJustKneel she's not quite old enough to read the clues yet, but is so independent that she won't want anyone to read them for her. I would love to do a trail!

Picture clues?

Could lead into doing writen ones in the future. Ours have got more crypic as they've got older, butg started with a map!

They know to expect a trail so its become a fab tradition for us, and means theres just eggs at the end too.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/04/2019 22:45

Could you hide clues , maybe draw things for her?

I used to hide dozens of the tiny yellow chicks in the garden for my DC , took them longer so more fun and not a huge problem if they missed any . I didn't want any vermin finding leftover chocolate or my DC finding one in about September Grin and eating it .

KneelJustKneel · 20/04/2019 22:45

Or photos of various places in the house, leading to the next photo etc...

BallsOfFluff · 20/04/2019 23:37

Oh I like the idea of a map!

I'll get drawing Grin

I do clues for mine. I suggested they were too old and got a wail of dismay, so I'm doing clues at present.
At 3yo they were simple words or pictures (eg of the door) and they go to the door and find the next clue until they end up with an egg at the end.
One year I sent them all round the estate on scooters. They had to find road signs/house names etc and take the "third letter from the second word" and it spelt the first clue out. It was wonderful-we had 2-3 hours of peace while they were out and they came back tired out. Grin
They don't like it so complicated now, I'm wondering whether to do one they have cooperate on this year, where they each get part of a clue.
They like the hunt more than the chocolate.

It's probably too late for you to see this, but EITHER put them in the freezer overnight (they'll be slower to melt and reduce the smell to your pet) OR take photos and hide the pictures. Each picture she finds is a 'token' for an actual egg. (this is what I'm doing)
