Recommend me a scooter for DS4

DS will be 4 in a few weeks. He I really wants a scooter. He already has a babyish one but we're looking for one that can actually go at a decent speed! Preferably with 2 wheels at the front. A friend recommended the micro scooter but they're so expensive! We don't have a budget as such but I don't like paying over the odds for stuff. Is there anything as good or am I resigned to spending my money?

Micro scooters really are the best. 4 is a slightly tricky age though:

  • he'd probably struggle with a 2-wheeled Micro Sprite
  • the 3-wheeled Maxi Micro is sized for the same age as the Sprite (5-12) but might be more manageable.
  • Mini micro is the right size for him now, but will only last a year (they are age 2-5, up to 110cm).

Whichever you choose, look at getting one 2nd hand (e.g. on ebay). They are robust enough to last well, and small children really don't care whether it's new!

We got DD a Mini Micro for her 2nd birthday and a Micro Sprite for her 6th. (probably on the early side: DD is very agile, and loves anything with wheels!)

Micro scooter. Yes they're expensive but it's worth it. They last forever and hold their value so you can always sell on / hand down to another child.
They're easy to use, smooth to ride and much more. They're popular for a reason.

Micro scooter , as others have suggested.

My two kids had several scooters apiece, which all broke, until they got their micros.

You can also get spare parts for micros.

We picked up a mini micro second hand on a local fbk buy and sell page, it's always worth having an ask on there. My ds got one when he was 18mo and is still using the mini at 4.5, although we have just ordered a maxi micro for him. The mini is still going strong and is going to be handed down to my friend's dd.

We got a 3 wheeled tilt-to-turn scooter for DD when she was younger (about 4). She still scoots on it now (9yo) as it doesn't look babyish. The handle height is adjustable and it has two wheels at the front (one at the back) which makes it really stable for our 3.10yo DS to scoot on too. It was about £40 from Argos.

It might be a handy stop gap until your DC is able to scoot on a two wheeler.

Ah thanks all. Guess I'm resigned to spending some proper cash then! I've had a quick look on gumtree etc but there's not any in good enough condition to be a birthday present tbh. He's a pretty small nearly 4 so I think we might get more use out of it than advertised, plus we've got a baby so it can be passed down. Time to get out the credit card Grin

Both my kids have these. They've lasted we'll, and I'm glad I didn't spend a fortune.

Whereabouts do you live whoami24601 ?

I'm not entirely sure I could persuade DD to give up her old scooter despite having a new one Grin, but there might be a someone on here just about to sell one on.

I got one for an older child from Decathelon and its great! They do the two front wheels ones as well, here.

whoami24601 · 21/04/2019 19:19

Oh I've ordered the mini micro now! Managed to find 20% off at John Lewis so it was a bit cheaper though - only £54. Thanks though!
