Costco for the first time this am. What to buy?

Going to Costco for the first time this morning, I have no idea what to expect or what it’s like. I’m going with a member, and thought I’d pick up bulk buys of nappies and wipes, and eggs? (Do they sell eggs?!) but what else do I need? What is good? Is everything sold in huge amounts? So you can’t just buy some biscuits, you have to buy 500 packets of them?! Thanks!!

I'm self employed and doesn't seem to come under any of them fields. I just took proof of self employment x

QuitMoaning · 20/04/2019 08:23

I have a ltd company, am sole director, but it’s not in any of those industries. I’ve been told if you have your own company you can join but I think it has to be within those fields doesn’t it

It has to be one of those industries for an individual membership but you can get a trade one for your company (which is cheaper).

There's a groupon deal for Costco membership at the moment of you haven't signed up

Tinned tomatoes
Pasata
Toilet rolls
Kirkland kitchen rolls
Tea
Dried pasta
Big boxes of washing powder.
Washing up liquid.
I'm never that impressed with the fruit and vegetables.
The great thing about Costco is the random amazing things you get, like shoes, clothes and household things.
The cafe is very cheap so you can eat there as well.
Staff are really efficient so even if the queues look massive they move really fast.

JudyDenchsBloomers · 20/04/2019 09:22

We get:
Toilet rolls
Kitchen rolls
Bin bags
Dishwasher tablets are good value
Giant fabric softener
Breakfast granola bars, they're amazing
Multi-pack of Sheba
Giant tub of marmite
Choc chips
Bricks of Cathedral City cheese
Pancake mix - have converted my sister in law/kids she loves this stuff
Chilli rice cracker crisp things
Frozen bags of gyoza
One of their family sized ready meals for dinner that evening
Licorice shapes, always get a box for my DM

Enjoy!

I have been planning to join Costco and go while I was on mat leave but now they’ve delayed Brexit I’ve got a stash to eat to make space before I can go shopping there 😂
This thread is very handy to see what we might actually buy. Mega blocks of cheese sound good, butter, loo roll, plus biscuits. Mainly I just want to see what they have! Oh and be able to get the toddlers birthday party food there later in the year.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 20/04/2019 09:30

the sanfrancisco coffee beans are amazing, I have several bags in the freezer

BUTTER...beurre d'isigny for pennies

giant rolls of black pudding

cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese...the coastal cheddar is amazing, but not super cheap

chicken, usually good, but the last lot of chicken thighs I had looked like they had been carved up with blunt spoons, so that made me a bit mad
the braising steak is fabulous

squirty cream....again the D'isigny brand....really much nicer than any other spray cream

giant tubs of pork scratchings!

the cookies and choc chip shortbreads are super, and I only realised this recently, but they freeze, so you can keep them more than five minutes from starvacious teens who once polished off a box of 24 in less than 24 hours
the giant muffins are good too, and last time we went they were on 241, so really super value.

LaPufalina · 20/04/2019 09:38

I go at least once a fortnight! I love it Grin
My must-buys
Enchiladas
Duck spring rolls or whole Chinese duck (frozen)
Mini goodfellas pepperoni pizzas
Pepsi max
Black bin bags
Pampers
Kitchen roll
Nutella bars
Rotisserie chicken
Antibacterial wipes

Kids' books are good too

CoffeeConnoisseur · 20/04/2019 09:39

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned the Ghirardelli Brownie Mix yet! I know it’s time for a
Costco trip when we’ve ran out of that.

And the chicken ramen noodle tub which you’ll find in the fresh food section.

We got some Egyptian cotton bedding last time we went and it’s washed beautifully and is such good quality.

cheesenpickles · 20/04/2019 09:40

We're about to go and I plan on getting:

loo roll
Washing liquid
Dishwasher rinse aid
Bag of frozen prawns
Some sort of box of pastries
Cheese
Crisps for kids packed lunches
Yogurts for kids packed lunches
Cereal
They have french vanilla squirt cream which is amazing

Make sure you eat ALL the free samples and have a slice of pizza at the end.

cheesenpickles · 20/04/2019 09:41

@JudyDenchsBloomers I grew up as a Bisquik girl but I'm all about Krusteaz pancake mix now. P.s. thanks for the reminder!

cheesenpickles · 20/04/2019 09:42

@MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours YOU CAN FREEZE THE COOKIES?!!?! Shock

Silverstreaks · 20/04/2019 09:51

Chili belly pork - thick sliced in the fresh meat section.
Wooky Hole cave aged cheddar.
Macadamia nuts if they have them.
Multi pack of Merino walking socks for blissful foot comfort.

Rockbird · 20/04/2019 09:55

I used to have individual membership but changed it to trade when DH set up his own company (doesn't need to be one of the listed industries, whatever your own business is, is fine). Trade membership is better because of the longer opening hours. Certainly in the Croydon one trade opens at 9.30 instead of 11 for individual.

And the bin bags are fab! A roll of 90 big strong ones for around a tenner.

JudyDenchsBloomers · 20/04/2019 10:00

@cheesenpickles I was never a pancake girl, but have a DH from the US who introduced me. I've been converting my family for the last few years, who get me to buy a sack of the stuff each time I go!

PersilOrAriel · 20/04/2019 10:02

coffeeconnoisseur I’ve not been able to get the brownie mix lately. Has anyone else seen it lately, nothing else is as good.

cheesewitheverything · 20/04/2019 10:06

I buy their enormous jar of basmati rice which lasts us for ages and is easy to store and my personal favourite is their frozen salmon as it is all really good quality and individually packaged so lasts for as long as you want in the freezer. DH always goes overboard with the loo rolls so every cupboard in the house is stuffed with them now.

beebreath · 20/04/2019 10:06

Their profiteroles are very nice 👍

Floralnomad · 20/04/2019 10:11

Get the halloumi fries in the freezer section they are even GF which is a bonus . We go about every 6 weeks but I always check the prices carefully as you can get stung by getting carried away thinking everything is cheaper - it isn’t . The Coke Zero and Pepsi max cans are a good price at the moment compared with all the supermarkets and the Vanish tubs and dettol laundry cleanser are always good value .
