What is popular in your garden for your 10/11 year olds to play with?

Our big trampoline has finally succumbed after years of service. My oldest two boys don't use the garden at all or care (15 and almost 18) but my 10 year old is devastated that I won't replace it. There is just no point as for the price, he will realistically only use it for another year.

So what can I replace it with? We already have an outdoor table tennis table which is really only used if friends are round. I need something for him that he can do alone as his teenage brothers are unlikely to play with him. Space is not a problem as such as our garden is very large. However, we do not have unlimited funds by any means!

What do your 10/11 year olds like in the garden?

Basketball hoop and football net

yearinyearout · 19/04/2019 21:30

I'd just look for a second hand trampoline tbh. Not much else he can do on his own.

MegBusset · 19/04/2019 21:31

I was just coming on to say trampoline! Tbh I would get the new one even if only for a year. You might find a used one on Gumtree?

I did think basketball hoop too but was thinking we could end up with the ball constantly in the neighbours garden which would be a pain. I am not getting another trampoline - good ones are expensive and he is too big for a cheaper small one. He is not a football fan so a net would not interest him I think.

Can you still buy pogo sticks? Might satisfy the bouncing need

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 19/04/2019 21:44

Slackline on wish list here.

PeachPotato · 19/04/2019 21:46

Ninja line?

Wiifitmama · 19/04/2019 21:48

Pogo stick! I think we have one somewhere from ds2. Must dig it out tomorrow and see if ds3 can use it. I remember it being very heavy but he might be big enough now. Good thought! Is a ninja line/slack line like a zip wire? He would LOVE one of those. Not sure how we would do it but might be worth looking into. Our garden is quite long (100ft) but divided into sections.

You can pick 10ft trampolines up for about £100 so not expensive at all. My daughter is 13 soon and she still goes on hers with her friends in the warmer months. Admittedly hers is bigger and I didn't buy a cheap one but they all amount to the same thing. We have a basketball hoop as well.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 19/04/2019 21:54

Slackline is like a tightrope- associated with climbing and parcour. Might even get the teens out again.

booellesmum · 19/04/2019 21:57

14 year old DD still uses the trampoline.
Our first one broke 2 years ago and we replaced it.

alltheeastereggs · 19/04/2019 21:59

Crazy catch

Wiifitmama · 19/04/2019 22:01

Hmmmm......rethinking the trampoline. Not sure what to do!

14yo x 2 and 12yo x 2 have played on trampoline for hours this evening.
They love it! Scooters were well used too.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 19/04/2019 22:04

Get him to look at the options here on you tube videos and see what he fancies maybe?

Hersetta427 · 19/04/2019 23:30

We have a basketball hoot on the wall and a football goal - both get used equally

converseandjeans · 19/04/2019 23:39

Football goal
Football rebounder
I think you should get another trampoline tho if DS is keen to have one!

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 20/04/2019 10:46

Here are some basic Slackline clips m.youtube.com/watch?v=vjHppP8hsvI it would be more technical than a trampoline, still bouncy though. Also you don't lose as much garden space as easily packed away.

Hello1290 · 20/04/2019 16:00

I'd get another trampoline. It sound like it would be well used and appreciated by your DS. It's good exercise too. He may well go on to use it for another few years.

MrsBlondie · 20/04/2019 16:03

My 13 year old son and friends still live going on our trampoline

ThreeLeggedCat · 20/04/2019 16:06

Today, trampoline, hammocks, climbing frame and paddling pool. Was going to take them to the fair in nearby town but they wanted to play in garden instead!

AVeryGoodBadIdea · 20/04/2019 16:12

Cousin's kids are the same ages and all three still play out on trampoline, slackline, gymnastics rings hanging from tree and their pool.

meowcatmeow · 20/04/2019 16:21

Mine love Swingball...not sure the neighbours like the swingball though!

BlindTipsy · 20/04/2019 16:42

Another vote for swingball. I quite enjoy it too Smile

Tiggles · 20/04/2019 23:34
