Anybody medical about?

Memom · 19/04/2019 21:24

7 year old DD has complained on and off of feeling dizzy, she goes very pale, eyes unfocused, has bad headache. GP said nothing to worry about.

Today this has happened very suddenly twice. (GP said to monitor)
Happened to have blood oximeter (clip on thumb thingy) nearby and popped it on. Oxygen was 92% and heart 135, second time it was 93% and 137 is this anything to be worried about.
Many thanks.

I'm not medical sorry but I would advise calling 111. The headache and dizzy thing is worth getting checked. Great that you have the readings. Let 111 know them. Good luck x

endofthelinefinally · 19/04/2019 21:37

Agree, call 111.

A&E, it could be asthma, a chest infection, pneumonia, but she will need monitoring to check her oxygen saturations do not drop so low that she needs oxygen. Those oxygen levels are borderline for needing oxygen at the moment. If she is getting worse and struggling to breathe or looking blue around the lips then 999.

Oxygen saturation is low and heart rate high. She needs to see a doctor.

SouthWestmom · 19/04/2019 21:53

How do you just happen to have the monitor handy? Unless you are medical that sounds a bit odd

Memom · 19/04/2019 21:53

It's odd because she isn't breathless, after a couple of minutes she is fine.

The monitor was on the table as my DH has asthma and needs monitoring during infection

It could be lots of things but it’s definitely not normal and she needs to be seen by a doctor this evening.
My dad is a surgeon and with the same symptoms he took himself to A and E.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 19/04/2019 21:57

Please take DD to A&E! That heart-rate is worrying.

She's not got a temperature, has she?

Either way: A&E

Greybeardy · 19/04/2019 22:01

Oxygen saturation levels will falsely record as being low if her BP is dropping transiently & that is more likely the issue given what you’ve described (and illustrates why having medical monitoring is unhelpful if you don’t understand its limitations). Agree with others though that if she’s getting lots of symptoms she probably needs to see someone who can interpret the whole picture again.

Memom · 19/04/2019 22:03

Her heart rate was 130 and oxygen 96% yesterday at the GP and she said normal.
DD is sound asleep now and was perfectly normal for two hours before bed after the latest dizziness.
I'm confused as to what to do. Could these numbers be her normal? I'm not medical at all.

Yes, SATS are low. Needs investigation.

YouBoggleMyMind · 19/04/2019 22:18

Heart rate seems high and sats shouldn't be that low. Defo needs looking into.

stucknoue · 19/04/2019 22:32

Without seeing her (obviously ) it doesn't sound unlike my dd who has query partial complex seizures, never been medically observed (just by my and teachers) not too frequent so we chose not to medicate (they have reduced dramatically since puberty settled too). The unfocused eyes are quite worrying. If you can film on your phone next time it's handy for the dr. This is what we were told (obviously if safe to do so)

JustAnotherMillennial · 19/04/2019 22:42

I am not a doctor but I do agree about partial seizures, similar to me when I was a kid (I have since been diagnosed with epilepsy).

I was never breathless and fine one minuet later other than a headache.

I would definetly ring 111.

NorthernLurker · 19/04/2019 22:46

It's likely the readings aren't accurate, it's not always easy to get the right readings on adult kit for kids. Dd1 once had sats of 88 except she clearly didn't and a better contact probe recorded 98. However that's irrelevant as you are obviously worried about her. I would return to GP.

DaisyDreaming · 20/04/2019 00:08

I would go back to the GP and also look at the STARS charity website for info on if your child is fainting or having episodes like you described

DaisyDreaming · 20/04/2019 00:09

Sorry I know you didn’t say fainting but STARS covers things like that, her high heart rate might be her body trying to keep her blood pressure up. I wouldn’t panic but would want it looking into

BooseysMom · 29/04/2019 13:36

@Memom.. Just realised we haven't followed up on your post about your DD. How is she now? Did you find out the cause of her symptoms?

Memom · 29/04/2019 13:51

@BooseysMom Thank you for thinking of us. The GP had no idea of a cause as she recovers so quickly so is referring her to hospital for tests. We are non the wiser really. I will keep pestering for hospital appointment.

@Memom.. how strange. Hope they get to the bottom of it and she's ok. Good luck x

Memom · 30/07/2019 11:35

Update ... finally saw the consultant last week who was very nice. She thinks it is due to dehydration 🤷🏼‍♀️ we have been told to increase fluids to as near to 2 litres per day as we can and increase salt. So far so good!
