Would you kick them out to play?

Beautiful weather here today, we were out at 10am spent 3 hours at a national trust property doing an Easter trail. When we got home the kids in our street we’re out playing. Ours joined for an hour then came in for tea. They’re both now vegging infront of tv. Both aged 10. Turf them back out to play or leave them to chill?

my 11 year old has been in his bedroom half the day on the bloody playstation so i chucked him out a few hours ago and told him to go and call for his friends. he’s just come back for a pound for some ice poles and buggered off again. my 5 year old on other hand has been in the garden all day and will probably have to be dragged in later 😂

I'd leave them be. They've been outside for 4 hours. A sure fire way to put them off playing outside is to force them to do it.

I would leave them to chill & do what they want.

FlowersInMotion · 19/04/2019 17:19

Let them relax. They've been outside. There's nothing wrong with wanting indoor time too.

Thanks everyone, I’ve left them be. They’re getting to that age where I don’t want to micromanage them especially as we have been out for a good chunk of the day.

Do people actually make their kids go out to play? I'm surprised at this. Mine always had free choice of out or in.

Beanybye · 19/04/2019 17:35

englishdictionary if they’ve been goggling infront of the tv all day then definitely!

Mine have free choice too. I have horrible memories of being forced outside to play as a child just so the adults didn't have to have us in the house.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss sorry to hear that but there’s a huge difference between ‘I don’t want you in the house at all’ to ‘it’s a beautiful sunny day, why don’t you go out and play with your friends for a bit’ or ‘you’ve been on the Xbox all day, time to get some fresh air’. There is a middle ground.
