I haven't and I don't know anyone that has.Must be weird to be on a night out and have constant attention from strangers.

My ex boyfriend is in a fairly big band.

I know Vicky McClure, she was a close friend of my older sister so she was regularly at our house when we were kids.

Unfortunately it would out the friend because these people tend to be quite guarded anyway.

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/04/2019 17:46

One of mine and DP's best friends sings with someone famous.
Also friends with a couple of people who were in a popular 80s group.
And also a legendary 1970s musician (depending on what genre you are into, but he's considered to be one of the best for his particular instrument.. in fact just been to his country house (DP works for this particular rock band)
DP is also friends with Jim Davison and they shared a mutual best friend who sadly passed (you'd know one of his Christmas songs)
We have also been invited to Todd Rundgren's house in Hawaii! (I've never met him but Dp worked for him)

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/04/2019 17:48

Make that three friends that were in two 80s bands. One of our best friends was in a band I loved as a schoolgirl. He hates them so we never mention them!

RustyParker · 19/04/2019 18:09

@mummylin That'll be Janet Montgomery wouldn't it? She was utterly amazing in Salem. Definitely an actress to watch for the future!

Mummylin · 19/04/2019 18:56

Rustyparker 😀

My neighbour has an Oscar.

Does that count?

She’s wicked at sport at the local pub quiz.

I'm the only person I know who doesn't have any famous friends/acquaintances. Blush I do know a couple of people who came close to moderate fame a long time ago with novelty musical acts (one of them would hate this description, but if the shoe fits!) but they are far from being household names. When another friend died recently I was surprised to see that his Youtube channel had over 4.5 k subscribers: not exactly fame perhaps, but impressive for someone who was very awkward and had few friends IRL. When I was little my dad used to know the cast of Eastenders and had a particular soft spot for Wendy Richard, who apparently was always trying to lure him into her dressing room! (Said he, anyway.) In more recent years he knew Frank Bruno slightly - I seem to be the only person round here who has never so much as glimpsed the great man other than on the telly. My brother knows a bunch of TV people but is careful to keep them away from his weirdo sister. :) Other DB apparently has a famous neighbour but I've forgotten the bloke's name so he can't be that famous. My best friend also has family showbiz connections but is uninterested in that aspect of life. At university there were always celebs around but I was too socially inept to speak to them. DP knows a former government minister (not UK) who I'm hoping can pull some strings if the buggers try and deport me after Brexit. I think that's about it.

PineapplePatty · 20/04/2019 00:04

I know a few. I'll need to NC though.

Jsmith99 · 20/04/2019 00:21

Many years ago I was a Labour Party activist, in a key Midlands marginal seat. I met most of the top New Labour people, including Tony & Cherie Blair several times. I became quite friendly with people who went on to become cabinet ministers, eg Geoff Hoon & Pat Hewitt.

Schlerp · 20/04/2019 00:43

I have two siblings who are actors. One has done well for themselves and moved into directing the other has just started out in the West End. Another sibling is a well respected but somewhat underground musician. My partner was the lead singer in a band that was big on their scene too but I’m not saying who as it’s too outing and he had crazy fans who’d appear all over the place out of the blue. Thankfully he grew up and got a proper job when we had kids so it was nice to leave all that crap behind. One cousin is a footballer who has gone from PL down the ranks and another is a newsreader on one of the main channels. I’m the failure of the family 😂

ThomasOMalley · 20/04/2019 01:06

I'm related by marriage to a coronation street actor - and I've never even met him!

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 20/04/2019 01:10

Ian Brown and a guy from emmerdale live near me, I've seen them around a lot. Dont know them though.

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 20/04/2019 01:15

Oh and a friend from uni had a brother who was in Waterloo road (ha)

BingandFlop2019 · 20/04/2019 01:33

@AliasGrape Jason Manford

coolwalking · 20/04/2019 01:34

I'm not in UK - I am friends with leading soap actress here and some tv personalities through my work.

Celebrity culture isn't really a thing here though - there aren't many people who don't know someone 'famous'.

A couple of people I knew have gone onto Hollywood and one is in a leading Netflix teen drama series now.

Aveeno2017 · 20/04/2019 01:36

Pointless post...why not just say who your friends with.

MsChicken · 20/04/2019 01:55

Used to go out with someone in a band, famous in the 80s. Lives a quiet life now, teaches music tech, none of his pupils know what he used to do or would ever have heard of the band unless their parents have still got their vinyl/cassette collections.

somethingunsualcauseicanthink · 20/04/2019 02:07

Yep, a few

But I can't tell you because of spoilers.

One of the other ones his character was an utter utter utter bastard, which considering his priestly side came as a shock.

Have fun with those

Alicewond · 20/04/2019 02:16

yes I know 937 famous people but I can’t tell you who they are, because... (that would prove I’m talking rubbish)

lboogy · 20/04/2019 03:11

I went to school with Rachel Stephens. She was a couple of years older than me. Don't suppose she's famous anymore. She really was quite beautiful - had a strange exotic look about her which even at 12 I was mesmerised by. Weirdly on tv she seems pretty ordinary. She was very popular too and I guess it got to her head. Unsurprising I suppose

I also know a child actor - been in massive Hollywood films - I can't name him though

MrsTeaspoon · 20/04/2019 04:31

The Dimbleby clan. As lovely as you can get. I always think people staring/coming up to talk when we are out and about and clearly busy with kids/school run etc a bit rude but they are always dealt with graciously and with aplomb.

AvengersAssemble · 20/04/2019 04:51

I'm famous, got a huge film out this week. Thanos we are coming for you ......

RainbowFox · 20/04/2019 04:54

I'm really good friends with a girl who is good friends with Garry Barlow but I havnt met him. She says he's really lovely. He's been a really good friend to her, she met him though her just being a fan, he followed her back on Twitter and struck up a friendship.

Gary recognises many fans and follows and replies to DMs on Twitter, he follows me on Twitter. But there is no fan out there that has become his 'friend'. He's friendly with them but there's a difference between that and actual friendship. However there are a few fans I could think of that would wishfully misinterpret this.
