Matching clothes for families?

Flurgle · 17/04/2019 17:51

What the actual?
Just having a look on Next for swimwear. They have boy/girl/mum/dad swimwear. I also see H and M have mum/daughter matching clothes.
I’ve seen it a bit on Instagram but had no idea it was such a thing?
I don’t know. I think I might be getting old. I wouldn’t be organised enough with laundry for starters. Anyone actually do this?

Well, why not? It’s fun to do on holidays etc. It’s not hurting anyone..

chipperchop · 17/04/2019 17:55

I’ve seen matching mum & daughter outfits once or twice, think it looks really weird... can’t imagine a whole family matching!

Flurgle · 17/04/2019 17:56

Never said it was hurting anyone. Just that it’s weird. In my ancient opinion. But fully prepared to be wrong Smile

I’ve never seen this in real life.

vegpatch · 17/04/2019 17:57

My kids would rather wear bin bags than matching clothes.

JellycatElfie · 17/04/2019 17:58

No, I know. My boys think it’s hilarious fun to match their dad (or me!) they are very close brothers though.

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 17/04/2019 17:58

Matalan do Dad/son and Mum/daughter matching stuff from swimsuits to jackets!

The range is actually nice and I've bought my daughter a few bits but won't be buying any for myself because I'm not keen either.

teyem · 17/04/2019 17:59

Anyone actually do this?

Grin Fuck, no. Surely all eyes would be on the family waiting for them to dive in and do their first synchronised number?

troppibambini · 17/04/2019 18:00

When I went to Turkey last year a lot of the Russian mums and daughters did this, it was a little odd a grown woman and toddler in matching outfits. But if it makes them happy leave them to it. My 8 and 14 year old would be mortified if I wore anything vaguely similar to themGrin

I asked for a particular coat for Christmas when I was 13. I'd not had a proper coat before and had this mental image of looking smart and elegant in it and not freezing my arse off every day on the way to school.

My mother bought a fuschia pink and black tweed coat, collarless and shaped like a bell jar. Size 18. I measured the grand sum of 31 inches all round on the 'sticky out bits' not that anything stook out much at that age. This monstrosity had an approximate circumference of the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. If you picked me up by the scruff of the neck and shook me, my body and legs would have dangled around inside like the clapper on a bell.

Horrified already, she then announces 'And I've bought one just like it so we can go out and match!'.

I chose to freeze my arse off instead.

Things that co-ordinate/colours that complement? Not quite so bad as long as you're careful to not look like you all dressed as a committee this morning. But matching? No no no no no no no no no no no no no no.

Moonflower12 · 17/04/2019 19:02

We all matched by accident on Monday.
We were all getting ready to go on holiday and as we got in the car, we realised that DD (6) DP and I were all wearing grey tee- shirts and dark denim jeans. We decided as we were already late setting off we would keep matching. I'm sure we got some odd looks!

Gingerkittykat · 17/04/2019 19:36

Me and my 10 year old had matching pink crocs, bought buy one get one free from the garden centre.

She loved it, of course that was in the pre teenage days when she still thought I was brilliant and beautiful, and not an embarrassing middle aged mum!

managedmis · 17/04/2019 19:38

I saw the pj's which is acceptable.

Swimwear? No.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 17/04/2019 20:16

It's 'twinning' - it's a thing on certain circles. Particularly in the 'can I breastfeed in it?' Facebook page.
I wouldn't match outright, complement, yes.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 17/04/2019 20:16

*in certain circles

drspouse · 17/04/2019 20:21

My kids love matching but beyond some pants I made out of leftover fabric from their clothes, it's a no from me for adults.

BlueMerchant · 17/04/2019 20:23

Only the PJs are acceptable.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 17/04/2019 20:28

Mitzi 😂😂😂

I’ve never seen this in real life, except for those hideous matching pjs which really seemed to take off this Christmas

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/04/2019 20:35

Dd1 and I match accidentally quite often. She's 19 and a few years ago we both went on the same school trip which included is getting the trip hoody. Since that hoody is the most comfortable hoody possible we both love it. So wearing that hoody and a pair of jeans is a lovely comfy warm outfit and we often end up wearing it on the same day. She's horrified!!!!

Dd2 quite likes it if we wear similar clothes, but I'd never in a million years buy something specifically to match. She's 9.

DareDevil223 · 17/04/2019 20:43

Weird, it just makes me think of the Mother Boy pageant from Arrested Development Grin

Many years ago my DM had a friend who used to dress herself, her DD and her DS in matching outfits. I've a photo somewhere of the 3 of them wearing matching red tracksuits. The ones with the fleece lining that you used to be able to buy on a market stalls in the 80's. Not seen anyone do it recently though.

Flurgle · 17/04/2019 23:34

Mine wouldn’t be seen dead matching with me. Even when they were small I think I’d have got an eye roll.
I assume it makes for lovely Instagram pics.
I would DEFINITELY have to pull at least one family member’s manky cozzie out of the wash to achieve this though.

It's on the latest Mini Boden catalogue

Maybe matching t shirts on the DSs for a day trip so they’re easy to spot (and describe if one went missing, “a smaller/larger version of this.”) But never matching between parents and DC! Shock
