What should I do about dd’s tummy hurting?

DD (8) has often complained about her tummy hurting. Not all the time, and not with much distress. It used to coincide quite a lot with mealtimes when she didn’t like what was for dinner.

Recently she hadn’t mentioned it for a while and then had a phase of eating a lot of bananas and it started again, so we cut out bananas, which seemed to work after a while. But she has started saying it again. She says it doesn’t hurt when she is eating but does before and after. It never stops her from doing anything, she goes to school fine but then complains afterwards that her tummy was hurting at school. Sometimes I think she’s just hungry but has got a bit confused with signals, she doesn’t eat loads and is a very slow eater so we have reduced what we send her in with as she’d rather be playing with friends (the dinner ladies won’t let her go unless she’s finished all her food...)

She is generally very healthy, though quite farty, so I think something is disagreeing with her but I don’t know what. She drinks a lot of milk but always has so can’t really correlate it. Cutting out dairy would be really hard, but perhaps we could try to reduce how much she has.

I don’t know what the GP would do? Is it worth an appointment?

Yes go to GP
They will know what questions to ask and may run some tests

What's her stools like? If you don't know, start going to the bathroom with her.

My DS(6) is similar, complains everyday of a painful tummy, but doesn't affect his life and is happy to go to school etc.

On insisting he calls me every time he needs to empty his bowels, it's evident he's suffering with loose stools very often.

I took him to the GP who initially said come back if nothing improves, but I requested they investigate further as they wouldn't let an adult be in constant pain without investigation.

They've ordered a stool sample and bloods to test for a few things so fingers crossed we get some answers soon.
