Bra interventionists - what size bra?

I have measured at a 28F according to boob or bust. 28in under bust and 35in over bust. I have a 28f bra but it digs in and leaves really painful red marks under my breasts. It also gives me armpit fat. If I scoop the armpit fat into the bra cup my nipples poke out the cup. Clearly it’s not the right size for me but what size should I try?

Bumping this in the hope someone will see it.

Not an expert, but:

  1. Have you done the band test? Do it up back to front so that the cups are on your back. You should be able to pull it out about an inch.
  2. If the band seems OK, you need a bigger cup. Try a 28FF
  3. If the band seems too small, you need a bigger band, but remember to factor the cup size down. Try a 30E
  4. Remember that bra fit varies massively not just be band but also by style. It's always a case of trial and error, unless you've bought the exact same bra before.

I am measuring 38D but it's not for me. I hate tight bands so I buy 42DD and it fits so much better. I think I have a massively wide rib cage though and not sure how it affects the measurements so that they come up smaller but I find if I feel the bra on all the time, it's not right. Had a professional fitting a couple of years ago because of this and the lady refused to get me 42 band 🤷. I will not be going smaller ever again. The wider band keeps my boobs in nicely so that's all I need. Always use non-wired anyway.

I'd try a 28FF and a 30F as a starting point.

tiintoon, no disrespect but a bra is supposed to give you lift and shape, not just keep you in. Maybe try again and try a 40 back as a middle ground? Remember bras give as you wear them.

42DD has a much bigger cup than 38D. Maybe the 38 felt tight as the D cup was much too small. Sister size of 42DD in a 38 cup would be 38F

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/04/2019 16:01

Given you measure at 28 I don't think it's all that likely you need a bigger band. Once you go up in the cup the band will be better anyway.

It sounds to me like you're probably more than one cup too small (1 too small is actually fairly subtle IME) so I would start with a 28G and go from there. Remember to scoop everything in to it and then see how you are doing.

Ok since getting home I’ve been through my old bras to see what sizes I have and i managed to find a 30E and a 28FF. The 30E was a disaster. Clearly way too small and I was bulging out all over the place. The 28FF felt much better. Still some armpit fat but definitely contained me better. However done up on the loosest setting when I tried it done up round the front I could see my skin where it did up as it appeared to be stretching quite a bit. I could manage to do it up a bit tighter though so maybe this is normal when done up on the loosest setting? I am now thinking maybe 28G would be the way to go?

That's definitely suggesting a 28g- that extra cup should resolve the armpit escapage and I think a 30 would be too big. Hopefully a newer 28 band will give you better support too

Scaredofthedark1986 · 17/04/2019 19:03

Thank you statisticallychallenged. I will start looking for a 28G.
