New passport application - will i escape the interview?

Does anyone have any recent experience please?
I know that previously it was considered a given that with a new passport application you automatically are called for an interview but I looked at the online application processand it now says that you 'may' have to have an interview.
It's such a pain to drag all the way to my nearest office 🙄
What are my chances?
🤞

If you haven't had a passport before, and you're over 16, you will have to have an interview I'm afraid.

Have you never had one before ? I've just renewed mine online and got the new one a week later.

Hearhere · 14/04/2019 22:09

Yes that's what I thought but now on the government website it says (for a first application) only that you may have to have an interview

My son just received his first adult passport he had an expired child's passport that he sent in with his application.
It took about 3 weeks and he didn't have to have an interview.

Yay 😄
that gives me some hope, thank you @5sleepingLions 😊

Even if you do, it's hardly a problem (unless you're faking citizenship I guess!). It's a very simple thing.

I naturalised last year and recently applied for my first passport online. Took about ten days, no interview required. Smile
You will need a referee though.

TheSultanofPingu · 15/04/2019 07:53

Op, if you have had a child passport in the past, you won't need an interview. If this is your first ever passport you will.
I know it's a bit of a pain if you aren't close to one of the interview centres, but the interview lasts about ten minutes and they only ask questions you will definitely know.

TheSultanofPingu · 15/04/2019 07:55

...and your passport will be with you about 4 days later.

Hearhere · 15/04/2019 10:47

my referee is on standby to confirm my identity and I'm not worried about the interview, it's just the inconvenience of it, it'll be a 5 or 6 hour round trip for me to get to the passport interview place.
I really hope I get lucky and don't have to have one 🤞

If you do need one you can do it by video link at a nearby designated place. Ours is at a local council office.

Hearhere · 15/04/2019 12:13

Really @Resting?
I had no idea!
will look into that, thanks 😁

My friend just applied for her first UK passport after getting her British citizenship recently. It took 10 days to come through and no interview.
