Ginger toddler allergic to suncream?!

It seems like there’s just one problem after the other at the moment with my 20 month old son! He’s ginger and I know gingers have no natural sun protection. I’ve been advised even on quite neutral days to use suncream. Last year he was under 1 during summer and I used Asda’s Kids factor 50 with no problems. I picked up some Aldi kids factor 50 with the weekly shop and he came out in what looked like a heat rash all over where I put it (so legs arms neck & face). So i went back to asdas but now he’s reacting to that too! Am I doomed to buying really expensive suncream for the rest of his life? Does anyone have experience with suncream allergies. Obviously I will buy the expensive ones to try but I’m worried he’ll be allergic to all of them and have to choose between him reacting, keeping him indoors for the rest of his life / no holidays or him burning to a crisp!

It's definitely a case of finding the right one for your child. DS2 reacted to Nivea and he doesn't have any other allergies or reactions whatsoever!

Isn't ultrasun expensive because it's a once-a-day cream?

Green people children's suncream is the only one my son can use, very expensive but all the usual brands available in supermarkets/boots affected his exzema.

I’m not red headed (but my mum is!) I have either a sun cream allergy or a sun allergy. I’ve found piz buin sensitive best. Ultra sun did not work for me.
I also take an antihistamine for a few weeks before going abroad and whilst on holiday; and I use dettol soap while I’m away. All of which combined seems to keep the itching away.
It’s a real nightmare - especially as i also suffer with low vitamin D levels so need to get the sun! I’m really hoping my DS won’t suffer the above too; as he is red headed.

Have a look at Altruist (they sell it on Amazon). It was developed by a dermatologist and a skin cancer surgeon, uses high quality ingredients like in the expensive brands but doesn't cost much more than supermarket creams. And they support children with albinism in Africa. We love it.
