Realising that day drinking and going to the pub is actually boring...

I’m in my mid forties, DH, mid fifties. A few years ago, when the children were younger and we actually needed to arrange a babysitter we loved nothing more than going into out nearest city, having a good few drinks with friends over an afternoon and into the evening.

Now, we don’t need babysitters the children are grown, we met with friends today at 2pm and by 6 I was desperate to go home. DH equally doesn’t enjoy himself, he gets ratty and argumentative after drinking these days so a few of an evening and straight home to bed Is better for him.

Today I realised that it’s actually a crap thing to do, go into town on a packed train, try to find seats in smelly, over heated pubs surrounded by a cacophony of screeching hen parties, pay silly money for drinks. Really awful, DH is moody and miserable and so we are home early,

I’m officially old at 45!

Yanbu, its dull as ditchwater. I dont like drinking or chatting for the sake of it and daytime drinking would stop driving.

I was just saying last week they need clubs to open earlier. Ide love to go out at 4pm have a few drinks a dance and be back by 10pm in bed with a kebab.

I saw a conversation on fb other day when they weren't even going out till gone 10pm
I'm far to old for that now.

DH and I are roughly the same age as you and we love afternoon drinking with friends. Don't get to do it too often at the moment but when we get a sitter, I love going out early rather than heading into town at 7pm. However we often end up staying out late anyway which defeats the object of going out early so as not to feel rubbish the next day!
