Anyone got arthritis in their foot

After months of foot pain I finally had a MRI and I've been told I have arthritis in my foot. I'm using one crutch at the moment to help support me. I've been told I need a steroid injection in my foot. I'm 38. Has anyone got any experience as it's come as a bit of a shock.

I've been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis since I was about 38. Yes it was a shock.

Have you any symptoms anywhere else? Inflammatory arthritis is lost commonly diagnosed i. Women between 30 and 50.

Steroid injections , for me, are effing amazing. Not toooooooo awful but VERY effective. Relief in a day or two. But everyone is very different

Yes I have it in both feet. I've had steroid injection in one foot and will do the other soon. It wasn't as painful as the rheumatologist warned me. I was off work a couple of days as driving and walking tricky.
I'm late 40s and it was a shock. There is no cure and steroid injections may work and even if they do they don't last forever. Found some great foot exercises on you tube which really help.

Do you have any other conditions? I have EDS/hypermobility syndrome which is the reason I have it in my feet. Finding it difficult to comes to terms with the fact that I will probably always walk with some pain. Exercise is good but if you can't walk then it's painful. Have a stationary bike but I also have chronic back pain so it's tricky.

Sympathy, OP. I am early 40s and riddled with sodding arthritis, including in my feet. I had a steroid injection in one foot on a day when it was so painful that I almost cried (and bear in mind I had a back to back labour and a burst appendix, and didn't utter a single complaint in either case). The steroid injection in my foot did hurt, a lot. But it gave me a good month without pain, for which I was immensely grateful. I'm now in pain again, but just ordinary day-to-day pain. I hope you find some relief.

I too have Psoriatic Arthritis, manifested mainly in my feet (unable to walk at my worst) and I was 38 when diagnosed!!!

Crunchymum · 13/04/2019 21:33

Methotrexate and (so far just the one) steroid injection have seen me into remission.

LittleChristmasMouse · 13/04/2019 21:34

Yes - inflammatory arthritis that started in my foot but is now everywhere.

Also have EDS/hypermobility which is making it worse as the joints in my feet are so unstable that they are being constantly injured.

Steroid injections did help but the effect didn't last long.

SlightAggrandising · 13/04/2019 21:37

Yes. Had multiple steroid injections. Now hoping for fusion.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I've been told I might be hypermobile as well so wonder if it's linked? Glad to hear the injections worked, I would just like to be able to walk without pain

Replying as I'm going through this now! I have ankylosing spondylitis (thankfully in remission due to early diagnosis and on a excellent dmard/nsaid combo). I had a bad arthritic flare in my hand a couple of years back and celecoxib worked where my usual naproxen didn't.

Now my foot is awful, swollen and stiff painful 2nd and 3rd toe. Can't take celecoxib as BF. Steroid tablets did fuck all, now trying another anti inflammatory. May have to stop BF to take the celecoxib if this doesn't work, DC is 14 months and is toddling so I need to keep up and my foot is just so sooooo painful Sad

I have psoriatic arthritis. Was diagnosed when I was in mid to late 30s a few years ago. I have it is a range of joints including my feet.

I take a fair bit of medication every day to keep it from worsening. I still get daily aches and pains, but less flare ups and swelling. Most importantly though the medication seems to be keeping any damage at bay, based on regular x rays, etc.

When I get flare ups Ive had steroid injections - sometimes into a specific joint and sometimes a big hefty one in the small of my back to cover it all.

I just commented on another thread about foot arthritis

I have RA. It's especially bad in my feet. I have had the steroid injections and they do help enormously but you can only have so many.

The best thing I have is custom made insoles, they are not cheap £300 and really not pretty. It's hard to find shoes they will fit into (Nike air max trainers, some Clarks shoes, some Gabor, some Primark boots randomly with the insoles ripped out) BUT they have reduced my foot pain by about 50% and also helped with my knee and hip pain.

I am also hypermobile so posture isn't great and these help to realign me.

Getting on the correct DMARD is also a priority, I cycled through 3 before landing on plaqunil which has controlled my flares best and given me much more freedom to enjoy life again. Don't be afraid to tell your consultant you think you can do better.

LittleChristmasMouse · 14/04/2019 12:18

Just to add about the insoles - I see the podiatrist at the hospital and they have mede me 3 sets of insoles.

They have been fantastic and are so helpful. Tbh, I am very impressed with the hospital. I have access to any therapy that I could want - podiatry, hand therapy, hydro, physio, pain management. I am incredibly lucky.
