What options are out there for kids who will fail there GCSEs- SENDS

Dd year 11 has had awful time last few years, basically everything fell apart looking certain to get a asd diagnosis when she finally gets to top of waiting list but all this is meant she basically missed over 80% for year 10 and 11 of school (so gcse years) and got a very late diagnosis of learning disability (working memory, auditory processing, dyslexia etc etc and has also suffered awful anxiety to the point that she has totally isolated herself from all other pupils/friends

Dd will not pass a gcse she will be lucky to get a 1 in maths and my gut get a 2/3 at a push for English though she will come out with two merits in Btec's she done.

Now the issue is what happens next year, I'm banging my head against a wall here, 6th form won't keep her without the grades, no way will she be able to walk into a collage in September due to anxiety

The school are meant to be helping with transition but so far have done nothing and with appIe 20ish school days left can't see what they are going to do.

I'm just so frustrated, the grades in the btec prove she had the potential and with the right support she can achieve but there doesn't seem to be anything out there for children like her, we went along to a local collage who spoke to her and showed us around a unit for children with very severe needs (I.e non verbal, very obvious physical disability etc) and Dd was so upset like she said she just a normal teenage girl and wants to be with people she can make friends with.

What am I missing? What options are out there? Ideally something that she can do over only a few days a week as we don't think she would cope with full time

If she was at my son’s school she could either stay on at their 6th form and do a Work Skills course with Princes Trust, she could go to the local 6th Form College and re-take GCSE’s or do a Level 2 Btec alongside maths/English (GCSE or Functional Skills) that could lead onto a Level 3 course.

Approach the colleges learning support department yourself. I appreciate and understand what your saying re the anxiety - my own son was the same - but with the right support it can be done. And a clean break from school could actually be the best thing in the long run for her.

To be honest I just think her school can't be bothered with her and won't her out, she currently on Prom report and can't attend if her attendance is under 97%, her attendance currently sits at 82% she basically missed whole of year 10 and since January her attendance has been really good she's been to school everyday and stayed in school but rather than focus on her positives they have set a target that's totally not even achievable whatever she does

Thought I had found a good course at a college that was only 12 hours a week and thought she could do functional maths/English alongside but getting conflicting information one person said yes and then next person I spoke to said functional skills isn't Available along side vocational courses Hmm

To be honest at the moment I'm not even sure I will get her into school to sit any exam she literally goes into
Meltdown and panics when it comes to exams ... so guessing I will be facing a huge fine on top of everything else

The school say all the right things, and my contact at the local authority who I deal with as she has EHCP says due to her anxiety and asd she needs to know know what will be happening in September and transition needs to start, school are saying we will see what her grades are on 22nd of August and if she gets a 4 in either maths or English then she can stay.

I honestly feel like I'm going round in circles, surely there must be options out there for her

That’s madness.

At our local college everyone who got Grade 3 maths or English does a GCSE retake alongside their chosen course and everyone who got Grade 1/2 does Functional Skills.

I'm hoping that the last person I spoke to was just useless and had no idea what she was talking about

Seems mental that the most basic course that has no entry requirements at all requires them to do gcse maths and English, most kids on this course probably will be because they aren't academic, if they had the grades they could do a number of higher level courses in the same field

We were only choosing it as it's something Dd is interested in and enjoys and it was more about getting her maths and English grade through functional skills
