Quick question for Merseysiders

Are Hackney Carriage taxi drivers happy to go under the tunnel from central Liverpool? If I got in one at Lime Street and gave them a Birkenhead address, any chance they would grumble or refuse?

Ta!

Im sure youll be fine, they will take you. You'll probably have to pay for the tunnel both ways though.

This is because the taxi may not find anyone in Birkenhead to take back over the water.

Scoose · 13/04/2019 13:54

No not at all they would be happy to take you you do have to pay the tunnel in too if the fare so it would be £3.40 plus what the meter says.

Scoose · 13/04/2019 13:55

Hackney taxis can't pick up over the water so it's not to do with not picking up a fare on the other side they can only pick up a fare in Liverpool

Bowchicawowow · 13/04/2019 14:01

Try phoning a Delta.

frippit · 13/04/2019 14:04

Yes they will take you through the tunnel to the Wirral. They will charge you for the tunnel fare twice to include their return journey.

Southwest12 · 13/04/2019 14:06

I’d use Delta or Uber as they are cheaper than a Hackney.

Mrsfrumble · 13/04/2019 14:07

Thank you! The double tunnel fare makes sense and I’m happy to pay it. I’d rather use a Hackney cab than a minicab as I’ll have children with me but no booster seats.

Children are 6 and 8, both slightly built. Am I being neurotic about the booster seats? My mum (who we’re visiting) certainly thinks so Hmm

We do sometimes take the children in Hackney cabs here in London as they’re regarded as safer and have the adjustable-height seatbelt in the middle seat that we can use for smallest DC.

OP posts:
Scoose · 13/04/2019 14:34

I would rather use a Hackney as they feel safer I wouldn't put my child in the car without a car seat and delta etc are just like doing that in my mind

WhenDoISleep · 13/04/2019 14:41

Do you have luggage to deal with as well as DC? A taxi from the rank is the easiest option but when I have done it some drivers are reluctant to go cross-river.

Alternatively, I'd either do as Whatsnewpussyhat suggests and get a Wirral line train to Hamilton Sq (or a station nearer your destination) or possibly look at one of the cross-river bus services, depending on whereabouts you are trying to get to.

Auntpetunia2015 · 13/04/2019 14:46

Get on the Wirral line at lime street it’s just next too boots and get the train the few stops to Birkenhead Hamilton square and then get a taxi from there much easier quicker and cheaper

Mrsfrumble · 13/04/2019 14:53

Will I be able to get a Hackney cab from outside Hamilton Square? I am also considering the bus as I know there’s a stop close to my mum’s place. We won’t have much luggage.

OP posts:
BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/04/2019 14:55

Oh get on the train. Much better!

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/04/2019 14:56

Just get the train.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/04/2019 14:58

You could get on the 437 bus outside the Met Quarter. That goes all the way through Birkenhead to West Kirby

GretaBritain · 13/04/2019 14:59

Are you traveling into Liverpool by train? If so ask for cost of return train ticket directly to Hamilton Square rather than Lime Street. It's possibly the same cost or very minor difference.

GretaBritain · 13/04/2019 15:00

*Or whatever Wirral train station you need

Mrsfrumble · 13/04/2019 15:16

I still need to get us safely from whichever Merseyrail station to my mum’s.

OP posts:
Whatsnewpussyhat · 13/04/2019 16:42

If you got the Wirral train to Conway park, the big bus station is across the road to get the bus straight to your mum's, unless there's a train station closer?

Kez200 · 13/04/2019 18:03

For a taxi Delta are great.

frippit · 13/04/2019 18:26

Tbh it's worth getting the taxi from Lime Street and paying a bit extra for ease of convenience. There's always plenty of Hackney cabs and you won't have to lug your bags up and down escalators and across roads.

singswithitsfingers · 14/04/2019 10:02

OP there is a taxi rank opposite Hamilton Square station, so i would also advise getting the train from Lime St. I’ve done this myself.

huntinghighandlow · 14/04/2019 10:17

An adult return from Lime street (it's the underground not mainline) to Hamilton sq is £3.35
