Things that airline staff want you to know...

If you bring the wrong passport to the airport, you will not be allowed to fly on an international flight.

No, the captain will not hold the aircraft for you while you wait for your relative to bring the correct passport in a taxi.

Lost your passport in the airport? Nope. You still can't fly - unless it is a domestic flight and you have reliable photo ID.

Domestic flights (like domestic trains) don’t need passports because the airline can assume you have the right to be in the country already. You don’t need to show a passport if you drive over the border from England to Scotland so equally same for a plane

This is one reason why Brexit will cause such a problem wrt the UK border with Ireland.

For all the knitters/crocheters/stitchers worried about scissors, etc, I've used one of these for years and it cuts threads and wools well enough. At times, I've even put a leather thong on it and worn it round my neck Grin

Re American tea: even when made with boiling water Lipton tea is still terrible. I suspect it’s blended for iced tea rather than “hot tea”.

I have had som3 amazing experiences. Flying alone with 3DC, I asked for the buggy at the door, was told only the pilot could go to the tarmac (in Spain) for it as the ground staff refused. I said not to worry, we’d manage, steward said he’d already asked the pilot, who duly appeared with the buggy. Two other families (2 DP and 1DC each family) who demanded theirs troops, were told they would be at the carousel.

Also arriving at Gatwick very late one night with the 3DC I was waved through the priority lane, family tried to follow Me in were sent to the main queue.

Flew to Malaga viaBrussels once (a lot cheaper) and didn’t realise we would need to go through security again in Brussels. Had bought 4 drinks at Heathrow after security. Flight was delayed, rushed through Brussels airport to be stopped at security. Asked if we haD any liquids I initially said no, immediately correcting myself to explain. The lovely security man asked how old DC3 was, I think under 3 (might have been under 4) he asked “so, the drinks are just for the little one? “ meaning he wa# allowed to pass them through. Didn’t make me taste them.

DS was less happy the year he and I flew home earlier as he had to go back to school before his sisters, he was 12 (just) but tiny. I think every person in immigration at Gatwick stopped to tell us the electronic gates could only be used by over 12’s. we got to the point where I was saying, as they approached, “it’s fine, he is 12”

I also got caught by the liquids when DH and I attended a wedding. Have really never flown hand luggage only due to small kids, I wasn’t aware that an aerosol deodorant was liquid in the can.

The person scanning my bag corrected me, and asked if I could squeeze it into my little bag? I laughed, said “not a chance, but it will fit in DH’s bag” and proceeded to stick it in (whilst DH was held up by them scanning the metalwork in his knee). I have always found being polite works.

Going to the States many years ago, was selected for a baggage check on the way in. I jokingly said I was more than happy for them to take out whatever they wanted from my hand luggage, but they had to get it all back in! They asked me where the food was. I produced half a tube of jelly sweets, they said, where’s the rest. Took a lot of convincing that I didn’t have half a larder in my hand luggage,

I used to work at Luton Airport years ago! Around the time they were filming Airline I wasn't in it though. People's stupidity used to baffle me too. I worked for the Jersey/Guernsey flights and never had any problems with the customers on the whole but the times I was dealing with EasyJet, well you needed a hard hat and thick skin! Shock
Looking back I really enjoyed working there. Even the 5.30am starts!

Im going on an 12 hour flight soon and would like to take my chilly bottle on board. If its empty through security would I be allowed to take it through? Im guessing i could but don't want it taking off me.

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/04/2019 08:55

Yes you can take an empty bottle through security, I've travelled many times with an empty metal water bottle. I posted a link upthread to the water in airports site, where people share the locations of water fountains after security.

Myself and my elderly mother were coming into Venice airport. Getting ready to go through the line for passport check, mother walking behind with her stick. Lovely woman asks would you and your mother like to come this way and opens up the divider for us and leads us right up to a bloke checking passports. We were through in no time. The massive family of seemingly able bodied people (I can never presume to know) who tried to follow were not impressed at being sent to the queue.

Hello travellers. I've got a request for you all.

Please don't put your passport or boarding pass in your mouth just before you hand it to your boarding agent/security personnel etc. ConfusedConfusedConfused

It's a disgusting habit and makes my skin crawl!!!
