Emergency Kitchen Advice Needed - island hob

I have to decide whether to put my hob on the island unit or on the worktop directly under the extractor. Architect says either fine. Builder says answer needed by Monday.

Where would you put your hob?

Initially I thought island so I can chat to people as I cook. Now I am worrying that the extractor will effectively be drawing any smoke and steam across the cook.

It’s somewhat messy but this is our kitchen.

Thanks for the pic! Your kitchen is completely lovely.

I think ours will look quite similar but with the hidden extractor where your fridge is. Do you use the area in front of the hob as a bar with stools?

I love my island and use it for all sorts! I would hate to have the hob on it, far safer away from the middle of the room.
I don't find it an issue at all.

OP I've just had my kitchen done. Not used the broken extractor for 5 years beforehand, just opened the back door and closed the door to the rest of the house when frying.

My new (beautiful, swanky, modern, brushed steel) hob has been moved from the wall TO the island and it looks amazing. I've not got an extractor at the moment but in the future I'm looking at a small recirculation one over the island or something discrete (and non-kitchen-extractory) against the outside wall.

For those worried about it looking cluttered, it's an incentive to keep it clean and clear up as soon as any mess is made. I love it being on the island!

I’m not so worried about safety as DC are older now. It would definitely have been a consideration when they were smaller.

@StrongerThanIThought76 what made you decide to move the hob to the island? (And what is the swanky hob type?!)

After years of facing the wall when cooking I wanted to be able to join in with the rest of the goings-on in my kitchen diner. Plenty of space to spread out too!

Have just eaten dinner, will add pic once we've cleared up.
