On my leg please? it is about the size of a 50p piece and quite red. it is not raised. it appears for two or three days then fades and I won’t see it again then for a few months. I have had it coming and going for years and I have never been aware of bumping. it it’s not quite a bruise. I don’t put creams on so I don’t think it’s that. it comes up very quick - one time I go to the toilet and it’s not there and the next time I go a few hours later it’s suddenly there. Any advice please?

Thank you.

It's nearly always the same
Shape too. Very odd, I'll try to find a photo of it the last time it appeared.

Mastocytoma?

katseyes7 · 12/04/2019 21:22

l get marks like that on the insides of the tops of my arms in Summer. They seem to be caused by the (short) sleeves of my nighties (cotton t-shirt type) - l think they bunch up as l move in my sleep. l have sensitive skin and bruise very easily.
lt doesn't happen when l wear long sleeved nighties when it's colder, strangely enough. l haven't had one for months, but l'll bet they come back when l wear my summer ones again.
Could it be from tight trousers or jeans that you only wear occasionally?

AlletrixLeStrange · 12/04/2019 21:24

I would've guessed burst blood vessels but not sure how likely that is to be recurring

slowdownplease · 12/04/2019 21:28

@tdm1 thank you for your reply, but I don't think it's that- I googled and it said if you rub it it would double in size in minutes if it was a Mastocytoma. I rubbed and nothing happened.

@katseyes7

Thank you, I had on tight skinny jeans today, same as I usually do, only I'm thinking that today I accidentally fell asleep in them whilst lying down feeding the baby, GrinBlushalthough I was lying on my right side and this is on my left? You could be onto something there though with clothing. I'll need to have a think

It does look closest to burst blood vessels but I don't know how I could have done that?

Is it tender when it appears?

It does look like broken blood vessels.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 12/04/2019 21:31

Faded birth mark made more prominent by increased blood flow?

No it doesn't hurt at all, and no bruising etc.

The only thing is I go to pull down my trousers and I'm like "oh, my spots back again!"
And I instantly think, " have I had a bump, did I rub on a new cream, did I fall over?" And nothing.

I've looked up burst blood vessels and they rarely come just as one spot, it's usually a rash. And there is definitely only this one spot on me.

I've been to the docs last time and they were as puzzled as me.

I don't think it's a birth mark as when it's gone there is no trace of it at all, sometimes for 6-9 months or more and then one day it pops back again!Grin

Thanks for all your suggestions!

slowdownplease l think it sounds like that might be what caused it. Maybe on that side because they were creased because of the way you were lying? When l get them, they aren't tender like a bruise - they look a bit like a lovebite type of bruising? (l can vaguely remember what they look like, even though l'm ancient!) And l almost always get them on my left arm. l go to sleep on my back, but l usually wake up on the other side of the bed, (to my left) which is when l think the fabric of the sleeve bunches up as l move in my sleep.

I took paracetamol and ibruprofen today for the first time in ages, don't know if that's linked?
