What age for a child to enjoy Matilda?

We've been offered tickets to see Matilda but not sure if the DC are too young (6 and 8). The oldest has been to the pantomime and enjoyed it- I'm more concerned about the 6 year old, especially as the guidance says 6+.

I loved that film at age 6 (watched it on repeat), so I think you will be fine!

I’m presuming you mean the stage show, OP.
It’s incredible and my just 7 year old loved it but there were a few moments which scared her until I explained how the actors had done it without hurting the child involved!

There were children much younger than 6 there when we went and I didn’t see any have to leave because they were upset - just a few “watch through fingers” bits.

DD was seven or eight when we went . She's not a fan of scary moments, but loved the stage show.

i think a six year old would have fun. some of the fabulous word play would go over their head (i think i remember a song about childbirth where hospital cotton rhymed with smarting front bottom), but the music and staging is excellent and should hold their attention, as long as they're not easily scared.

The stage show is AMAZING!!!! We saw it last month. DD is 7, adored it. DS is 19, loved the big show (we normally go to am dram panto!). There is about 2 mins of darkness in the interpretation of the story, I would not hesitate to take a 6 year old.

BikeRunSki · 12/04/2019 14:06

DS is 10, not 19!

Perfect ages if you ask me! I think my youngest was five first time but he loved it.

blackteaplease · 12/04/2019 14:06

I took my 6 and 9 year old in December, and my 5 year old nephew. They all loved it but the younger two got a bit restless towards the end of the first half.

happypotamus · 12/04/2019 14:12

I took my 7 year old and she loved it. There were younger children there. None seemed upset but some were maybe a bit overtired and fidgety because we went in the evening and it didn't finish until after 10pm.

whoami24601 · 12/04/2019 14:29

My DD6 went recently with her auntie and really enjoyed it! Ditto her cousin who is 8. So much so that I got jealous and went on my own the week after Blush

HolyForkingShirt · 12/04/2019 14:37

Sorry I was being really dim and thought you meant the film!

ifoundmytribe · 12/04/2019 15:24

It is the evening show so I was wondering about the time, although it is the holidays.

I think we'll go for it, heard such good things. Plus the 6 year old is more likely to fall asleep, the 8 year old is the fratchety annoying one!

It's super long tbh I can't understand the rave reviews - I was a bit bored and so were my 6 and 8 year. I regret spending the best part of £200 on it. P lus the metro ride home at 10.20pm on a Friday night was not fun!
