Quick question - how to get chocolate out of moulds

posting for traffic here!

I'm making easter eggs today. How the bleeding hell do I get them out of the plastic moudlds?! All the videos online make it look so easy but every time I try running a knife around the edge or gently pushing the plastic in, my lovely egg cracks.

Any help massively appreciated.

Try rubbing a warm flannel on the outside of the plastic to loosen it.

Ooooooh, good idea. Okay, going to try it now

Zap the other side with a hairdryer

DirtyDennis · 12/04/2019 10:00

Aaaah, nope, it didn't work!

It just kind of melted the chocolate a bit so the choc goes all bendy as I try to manipulate the mould

What do you mean the other side? Like the insidey bit?

Won't that do the same thing, make the choc all bendy again?

Line the mould with cling film?

DirtyDennis · 12/04/2019 10:07

I don't have any cling film @Bluebelltulip and I can't nip out because I'm waiting for delivery men. Fuck my life

I know you aren't meant to put chocolate in the fridge but if you chill it a while that might make it easier ?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/04/2019 10:23

Are your moulds plastic or metal? Bit late now but you buff the inside with a paper towel, it makes the chocolate shiney.

I think if it doesn't work , you'll need to eat the chocolate/hide the evidence

Blast with the hairdryer on a very cool setting?

BollocksToBrexit · 12/04/2019 10:30

I would stick it in the freezer for a few minutes.

Felicia4 · 12/04/2019 12:13

If they are silicone moulds a blast with the hairdryer on the silicone side will give it enough "melt" to manipulate them out. I always do one at a time so I can control the temperature.
