Massive weekend planned and I’m unwell.

I could sit and cry. Actually, I have.

Planned weekend with friends, flying tomorrow and coming home Monday.

I’m feeling so unwell. Awful cough, coughing so hard I’ve been sick. Chest and back hurt when I’m coughing.

No temperature which is a good thing, but oh my god why?!

Anyone want to join my pity party?!

I can sympathise, poor you! I was only thinking today how fortunate it was that we hadn’t booked a trip somewhere this Easter hol (apart from DS1’s school trip) as DS2 is unwell and hasn’t been right for a few days really.

a few people we know are away either skiing or somewhere expensive like Florida and I was thinking “Christ, what do people do who have booked these expensive big trips and then feel like shit with a virus?”

I mean it’s not as if you can tell whether it will pass after a day or two or linger for 10 days or so....

So here is a big bucketful sympathy from me! (You can use it to be sick in afterwards if needs be! Grin)

What kind of trip is it? Could you manage on the plane with paracetamol? Hole up for a day and then try and enjoy the rest of it once you’ve had plenty of rest in the hotel? Or are you staying somewhere you won’t be able to get much rest?

I’m running a marathon on Sunday.

The vomiting has started Envy

Oh no! Well if it was me I would just pull out but then I wouldn’t have booked a place in the marathon in the first place! Grin

SandunesAndRainclouds · 12/04/2019 07:20

I’m in tears and don’t know what to do. I’m definitely not going to be able to run, I can cope with that. But can I really let everyone down and not go at all... I organised the whole bloody weekend and we’ve paid hundreds of pounds in flights, accommodation etc.

Oh no you poor thing. Personally I wouldn't go, there's a chance you would make everyone else ill and you probably want your own bed anyway.

I'm sure the others will understand, do they all know each other independently of you?

grumpyyetgorgeous · 12/04/2019 08:07

Can you dose yourself up enough to get there then just relax and take it easy once there? Surely your friends will understand and go out without you.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 12/04/2019 09:11

You can't fly if you're vomiting. It will be horrendous for you and everyone else on the plane.

I'm sorry Thanks

Aquamarine1029 · 12/04/2019 09:21

I'm so sorry, op. This just sucks, no two ways about it. I've been through the same situation, (well, not running a marathon!), and it's such a let down. All I can say is try to keep this in perspective. Hope you feel better soon!

Handofglory · 12/04/2019 09:24

Oh no how gutting. You’ll just have to tell your friends exactly what you’ve put here. Can you claim on travel insurance?

CommunistLegoBloc · 12/04/2019 09:26

Oh no! I’ve had similar happen recently and it’s so upsetting, especially when you think of all the time you’ve had nothing in and felt great. Bastard bodies.

But no, don’t dose yourself and fly. You’ll be miserable, you’ll pass it on, and tbh when you’re ill all you want is your own bed and creature comforts. Flowers

Have you got travel insurance?

Flicketyflack · 12/04/2019 09:27

Personally I would cancel if it were me. Firstly because it is preferable to be poorly at home & secondly it is unfair to share this with other people.

I hope you feel better soon Thanks

SandunesAndRainclouds · 12/04/2019 10:00

They’ve all been great, really understanding. I haven’t been sick again this morning, and it is force of coughing making me sick rather than it being gastric.

There’s always other weekends. It’s not the end of the world. DH has taken the children out as planned so I’m staying curled up in my bed and enjoying the quiet for a change.

Were you really going to take a flight just to run a particular marathon? (Boggling at how different some people are to me! Grin)

Are there no marathons near where you live? Or a train ride away?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/04/2019 21:04

How are you feeling now by the way?

SandunesAndRainclouds · 13/04/2019 07:37

Haha yes I was! I’ve done a few UK marathons and fancied an international one.

Feeling much the same, no sickness now which is a relief.
