I don't ever drink coffee or juice or fizzy drinks. Anyone else the same?

I haven't drunk even a single drop of coffee, juice or fizzy drink for the last 5 years! I just drink plain water, unsweetened herbal tea and white wine (only once or twice a month though). I get quite a lot of inflammation, prone to allergies, ibs etc. but I do wonder if I'm still better off than everyone who regularly consumes coffee, juice and fizzy drinks or are some people genetically resistant to the bad effects of these drinks?

Do you notice differences between those who drink those and those who don't?

I know food diet is also very important but just looking at drinks here.

Thanks for all the comments :) would be interesting to see those who are healthy with their drink choices - whether they feel they have better skin and gut and mental health as a result of it, esp those who used to drink fizzy drinks etc and no longer do.

Yeah bit of a weird one with coffee - lots of online sources claim it prevents diabetes etc so is beneficial in some ways but overall, people are always told to cut back on coffee/avoid it as (some) people seem to get bad skin from it as well as insomnia, anxiety and it can flare up IBS I've heard.

BlackPrism · 11/04/2019 20:31

@Bezalelle surely if you're drinking that much tea you're full of caffeine anyway?

beansontoastz · 11/04/2019 20:31

@BlueCornishPixie everything in moderation! Drinking through a straw saves your teeth though Wink

I never drink tea or coffee. Just stick to water. And booze at the weekends.

Coca Cola is a must though when I have a hangover.

3in4years · 11/04/2019 21:22

Tea. About 4 caffeinated and 1 or 2 decade a day.
Coffee once or twice a week.
Squash once a day.
Water 2 or 3 times a day.
Wine 2 or 3 times a week.
I have no issues with digestion or anxiety or sleep (except for the kids not letting me get enough).

Mominatrix · 11/04/2019 21:32

What precisely are the bad effects of coffee, juice, and fizzy drinks? Please support your statements with Medline available research, not nutribollox.

Dowser · 11/04/2019 21:38

I gave up drinking tonic in pubs as I’m sure it acts like a laxative l I take a bottle of water with
I hate fizzy drinks, sugary drinks beer etc
I’m a bundle of laughs aren’t I
Water or peppermint tea here
Never drunk coffee for over 40 years
Didn’t care for it then

Margot33 · 11/04/2019 21:43

I'm the same, i only drink water and unsweetened herbal tea. I've done this since January. I feel great and always have energy now. When i used to drink tea/coffee I always felt tired. So many people now comment on my great skin too!

Palominoo · 11/04/2019 21:45

I never drink water on it’s own. I drinks cherry Pepsi max mostly and hot chocolate.

I occasionally have a coffee, I have never drink tea.

I very rarely drink alcohol and go years at a time not drinking it.

Sunandseaside · 11/04/2019 21:45

I don’t drink alcohol or any caffeine. Along with milk/ dairy. I have decaf tea or herbal! It was hard at first but it pretty much cured my ibs and anxiety.

Some days I’d kill for a vanilla latte though.

BrokenWing · 11/04/2019 21:47

I've never enjoyed hot drinks and mainly drink water since going cold turkey on diet coke 5 years ago. If out I'll have tap water (Scotland, so tap water is good and free!!) with a meal, an occasional soft drink or wine/spirits if socialising.

I enjoy a meal with water as you get to really taste the food.

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 11/04/2019 21:49

I drink between 2 and 4 coffees a day. I hate squash so never drink that. Love coke but only have some about one or twice a month. Have juice when I feel like it (not that often). Don’t drink alcohol (I don’t really like it). Every other drink is water.

PineapplePower · 11/04/2019 21:53

I used to only drink water, threw up the first time I had a fizzy drink as a kid and developed a lifelong aversion.

But since I had a kid I’ve been mainlining coffee. Definitely feel I’ve become a bit dependent on it, but it’s supposed to be healthy right? Right!!?

HolyForkingShirt · 11/04/2019 21:54

Some days I’d kill for a vanilla latte though.

You could have a decaf almond/coconut/oat one

YonWeeLassie · 11/04/2019 21:59

I hate sweet soft drinks, even fruit juice is too sweet for me. I love fizz though and have a soda maker. I drink lots of fizzy water just flavoured with about 10% fruit juice.

Lottaberry · 18/04/2019 19:03

Thanks everyone so far :)

WinterHeatWave · 18/04/2019 19:11

I do drink fruit juice if out, but not at home.
I dont drink tea or coffee or fizzy stuff.
The removal of sugar from Ribina stopped any squash habbits I had.
So, day to day, its water.
Juice or wine or spirits when out.

JudyDenchsBloomers · 18/04/2019 19:20

Wine or water, that's all I drink. Sounds boring but I never tire of it.

MirandaGoshawk · 18/04/2019 19:35

I gave up alcohol because I noticed that it gave me rosacea and I don't miss it. Haven't drunk coke since I was a teenager and can't imagine ever drinking it. Might have a ginger beer if out but don't like the bloating it brings. Have never liked milk so have black rooibos with a slice of lemon. Two cups of coffee with almond or oatmilk per day -with chocolate - my morning treat. I'm interested though in people saying that they have more energy once they've given up tea.

WhatNowRandy · 18/04/2019 19:40

I drink a mugs and mugs of coffee every day, and the occasional juice or fizzy drink, and don't have any IBS or random inflammations, and I doubt my shellfish allergy is caused by them, either. I doubt I'm particularly genetically resistant, but I don't really see what the link between these things is supposed to be (well, apart from IBS, which I guess can be triggered by all kinds of random things).

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 18/04/2019 19:50

Tea, coffee, water, herbal tea, wine
Occasional beer,

Cherylshaw · 18/04/2019 19:54

I pretty much exclusively drink cola, honestly don't know how I'm alive as unless i have sore kidneys or i am unwell i never drink water! I was never allowed fizzy drinks when i was a kid so when i moved out that's all i drank.

Gottalovesummer · 18/04/2019 20:00

Water only here too. No fizzy drinks/juice/squash. No tea and very little coffee, maybe 1 cup a day.

I'm sure it helps keep my weight down.

PackingSoap · 18/04/2019 20:07

I don't drink caffeine, alcohol or soda drinks, and haven't for over five years.

I'm pretty convinced that it's the reason I get more tired than other people and need noticeably far more sleep (9 hours plus a night). I suspect modern life has evolved to be structured in such a way as to account for significant caffeine consumption amongst the populace. If you don't consume it, it's very difficult to keep up.

Lottaberry · 18/04/2019 23:25

@Cherylshaw Interesting, so even with drinking coke all the time, you feel perfectly healthy generally?

@PackingSoap I know exactly what you mean as I'm the same as you but surrounded at work by people who drink 3-4 cups of coffee as a minimum per day.

Thanks everyone so far :)
