Fluoxetine - problems with sleep!!!

I have been taking Fluoxetine for 3 weeks and it’s definitely helping with lifting my mood. BUT - it’s having a negative impact on my sleep. I am waking up in the early hours and have trouble getting back to sleep, and even when I am asleep, i don’t think I am sleeping very deeply.

I feel tired and look tired.

I saw my GP last week and she said to persevere for a while longer.

Has anyone had this as a side effect and had it pass?

What time of day are you taking it? I also found it disrupted my sleep patterns at first but taking it as early as possible in the day when I first wake up has helped.
Try and get plenty of fresh air and gentle exercise during the day if you can so that naturally tire yourself out and can get into a good sleep routine. Also consider learning a few simple relaxation breathing exercises so that even if you do wake in the night sometimes you won't need to just lie there fretting.
Definitely keep going with it, it has changed my life. Really hope it helps you too Thanks

Thanks for that. I have been taking it between mid morning and lunchtime, so I will try taking it first thing in the morning. It’s just so frustrating as I am feeling good but just sooo tired.

Fingers crossed that helps you sleep a bit better. It took longer than 3 weeks for me to feel the full effects so I'm sure you'll see an improvement soon.

Thank you!

It the same affect on me. Eventually I went back to the GP and said that I would rather have the symptoms of depression than the side-effects. She moved me to different ADs that suited me better. Different ADs affect people differently and there are lots of different types. You might find that things improve, but if they don't, go back to the GP and ask to try something else.

No disenable problems here, but I do take them first thing in the morning.
