Fancied going to the cinema tonight and as we’ve seen a lot already wondered what pet sematary was about.

Now I know and it sounds beyond grim.
You’d have to tie me to a chair and have the streets filled with zombies outside before I could do that.

Could you watch it?will you go to see it?

My DSis is a self confessed wuss and she said it wasn’t scary. Apparently there was one moment she jumped but overall seemed quite tame so I will wait till it’s out on DVD. I struggle to find frightening horrors now. I think I prefer films that are more unsettling/disturbing. Eden Lake is one of my favourites. Although I also really like the Hostel films.

I don't think I'll bother. I read the book years ago way before I had children and I found it harrowing. I know they've changed some of the details for the movie which might make it slightly less awful, but then again most of the movies based on SK's books are terrible. I was so excited for the remake of IT and it was rubbish! Not gonna bother with part 2 of that either.

You're right. The horror movies tend to be shit, with your a I've exceptions, see...

Children of the Corn
Firestarter
The dead zone
Thinner
Dreamcatcher
The Lawnmower Man
Special mention for ...Sleepwalkers
Needful things

when the desperate vulnerable teen girl fucked all the boys and that made everything OK

They were eleven, which is even worse!

iklboo · 11/04/2019 19:30

@teyem - Let's not forget the car crash that was The Langoliers!

Moominfan · 11/04/2019 19:32

Not seen any of the films, is the book worth a read? Always avoided sk as I'm under the impression that his books are really descriptive

Saucery · 11/04/2019 19:36

I will, but they have made a huge change which lessens the emotional impact in the book.

BorderlineExperimental · 11/04/2019 19:36

Let's not forget the car crash that was The Langoliers!

I've got a real soft spot for that adaptation. I know it's crap but I still love it Blush

I also rather like the mode for TV version of The Shining. Yes, it's a bit daytime TV-ish but it's actually pretty good as far as adaptations go.

The Mist is brilliant (which is a given as it's another written and directed by Darabont) and I thought 1408 was great as well.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 11/04/2019 19:37

Nice almost gentle Stephen King Dolores Claiborne is brilliant.

BorderlineExperimental · 11/04/2019 19:37

*made for TV

teyem · 11/04/2019 19:37

If we are including crap TV series iklboo, I'll raise you with Trucks and Under the Dome.

theworldistoosmall · 11/04/2019 19:42

I will watch it when it comes to Netflix etc.
I find with the films they are hit and miss. Although The Shining was really good but could be down to Jack Nicholson.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 11/04/2019 19:45

The book terrified me. I read it when I was mid-20’s and it was just horrific. I’ve never attempted to re-read it and since I’ve had DD there’s no way I would! I’m a horror wimp though, my imagination gets carried away with me.

As for gentler Stephen King books I liked 22.11.63, The Shawshank Redemption and Misery.

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 11/04/2019 19:47

Also, someone upthread mentioned The Mist, that scared me too and I genuinely get worried in fog because of it. Which amuses my Dad greatly Smile

teyem · 11/04/2019 19:51

Just make sure he's not the one driving the car when the fog rolls in Letter.

Remake isnt a patch on the book or original film. The remake is not scary at all.
