Which would you choose? And why?

Second set as they look easiest to clean (no curved edges/folding).

beansontoastz · 11/04/2019 20:16

I thought wooden ones weren't more hygienic? As meat bacteria can seep into the wood? Or have I got it completely wrong?

We have a wooden one but we only us it for slicing pizza/veggies.

Stillmonday · 11/04/2019 20:16

@Icedlatte Plastic ones are more hygienic because you use different ones for different uses so no cross contamination. In the kitchen trade apparently wooden ones are banned for that reason

You can buy more than one wooden one...

Studies have shown less bacteria on wooden chopping boards.

Stillmonday · 11/04/2019 20:34

They are too big and space is an issue for me

They come in as many different sizes as plastic ones do tbh. As pp said they're great for doubling as a pan stand. Obviously up to you, I'm not invested Grin

Stillmonday · 11/04/2019 20:52

Hmm I'm swaying back to wooden now!

Have a look at the Ikea website op, there's loads on there.
I promise I'm not some sort of chopping board enthusiast!

Stillmonday · 11/04/2019 21:21

Ha yes I will do Grin

Can they go in the dishwasher?

Boatsnack3 · 11/04/2019 21:44

I like the middle ones best but I've had the same glass chopping board for about a decade I just wash it in between to avoid cross contamination.

Rafabella8 · 11/04/2019 21:52

First ones look great OP. More stylish than the others. Not too in your face.

Angie169 · 11/04/2019 21:57

I do not have a dish washer but if I did have I would not put my wooden board in there, it would get to wet for to long. I think that is when they may become more porous and get germ infested.
I do not submerge mine it gets scrubbed and rinsed under a tap.

RaffertyFair · 11/04/2019 22:25

What about something like this OP? Best of both worlds?

I actually have a Joseph Joseph index set and love it. Keeps everything separate, takes up very little space and can go in the dishwasher. I have a separate wooden bread board.

beenhereages1 · 12/04/2019 17:37

I had the same thought as @beansontoastz ! Always thought wooden chopping boards/spoons harboured bacteria

UCOinanOCG · 12/04/2019 19:26

I put my plastic ones in the dishwasher but nit my wooden ones. I only use wooden ones for bread.

DontCallMeShitley · 12/04/2019 20:24

None of them.

Mine are all flat, can't be doing with curved edges and little gulleys, no handles that stick out, just a hole to pick them up with.

I used to get them from IKEA, but hated the green ones so get them from TKMaxx or online. I get plastic as they can be washed in the dishwasher and wooden ones hold smells and are never fresh.

I keep them in a drawer out of the way.

IncrediblySadToo · 12/04/2019 20:28

None of those.

I have plain, flat, white ones that you can easily bleach, they live IN the cupboard.

I have a nice wooden bread board ONLY used for bread.
