QUICK HELP PLEASE - time zone confusion!

DirtyDennis · 11/04/2019 13:35

Aaaaah, help me.

I am in the UK

I am meant to be phoning someone who's in North Carolina at 10am their time (EST)

I had though this was 2pm my time (GMT)

However, now I've checked my calendar, it's in for 3pm my time.

So I double checked the time difference but now I'm confused because of daylight saving and struggling to find a definitive answer.

WHAT TIME IS IT IN NORTH CAROLINA RIGHT NOW?!

FUCK MY FUCKING LIFE

It's 8.35 in NC. Google is your friend

Time in North Carolina, USA

I did google but I'm massively confused.

It can't be GMT -4 because that'd mean we'd be speaking at 2pm but it's in my diary for 3pm

I once visited New York and the time difference between there and the UK was four hours, when it's usually five. It does happen.

Did you arrange the call specifically for 10am their time? If so, ignore your calendar because 10am EST is 2pm BST.

DirtyDennis · 11/04/2019 13:50

@LassoOfTruth Wow, that's a brilliant site, thank you.

It informed me that "Note that United Kingdom is not on GMT during summer" Shock Shock

That's the root of my confusion - I was looking at GMT.

What a plonker.

Thank you so much for all your help - sorry for my massive panic

Ah, I've gained myself an extra hour now before my phone call Grin

Time for a coffee I think Grin

I'm guessing that they don't use daylight saving time in the US?

If they're GMT-4, that means your diary is correct, because the UK is currently BST or GMT+1, so a place that's on GMT-4 is going to be 5 hours behind the UK, so 10 am there when it is 3 pm here.

@BarbaraofSevillle
Cross-posted.
Yep, that's the issue. I didn't realise the UK wasn't on GMT during summer. What a twat

They do. Their clocks changed on Sunday 10th March.
