I'm an idiot- took night nurse instead of day nurse

.. and I'm at work. I have a sinus infection (or so I expect) and was having the worst sinus pain. It's been affecting my sleep and my day to day life.

I went to the boots near work to buy a packet of day and night nurse. In my haste to dose up, I ripped the package and took what I thought were the day tablets quickly. I soon noticed that my pain was easing and that was feeling rather mellow. Checked the blister packet and sure enough the night ones have gone 🤦‍♀️.

What can I do? I have two long meetings to survive 😱.

Ps. Yes I'm an idiot.

Not sure about night nurse but I think the only difference between a lot of day and night medication is the night medicine doesn't have caffeine in. Can you look at the box for the ingredients of the day/night medicine and see what the difference is?

Tattletale · 11/04/2019 11:48

Oh and I would drink a shed load of coffee 😂

whatadoofus · 11/04/2019 11:49

Night nurse has a strong drowsy antihistamine 😢

I accidentally took drowsy cough medicine before a long drive. I genuinely didn't realise. My eyes were trying to shut on the motorway, but it wasn't horrendous (yes I did stop driving!).

HazardGhost · 11/04/2019 12:02

Your making mistakes because your poorly and now your about to fall asleep. GO HOME!???

TimeIhadaNameChange · 11/04/2019 12:10

At least it wasn't the syrup which knocks me out in minutes.

Lots and lots of strong coffee??????

TwinsTrollsAndHunz · 11/04/2019 12:14

The drowsy antihistamine doesn’t really affect me so I’m always amazed by the ‘knocks me out’ comments. However, if you are strongly affected then surely you just need to get yourself home and to bed? Obviously do not drive or cycle yourself home.

captainprincess · 11/04/2019 12:34

Oh dear! Night nurse is fantastic but not ideal at work 😂 probably best to go home....

KnitterOfSocks · 11/04/2019 12:43

Night nurse knocks me on my arse for about 8 hour straight. I really think you are going to need to be somewhere safe to fall asleep...

Usuallyinthemiddle · 11/04/2019 12:46

They are over the counter meds not horse tranquilizers! They don't knock you out all night! They relax you to get to sleep then wear off in an hour or so!!

Have something to eat, have plenty fluids and try not to drive for an hour. You will get through this!

whatadoofus · 11/04/2019 12:54

I'm still awake.. I am finding it's best to be up and about regularly to keep my oxygen flowing. Survived one meeting, just a long afternoon one to go. Hopefully the side effects will wear off before then. I've had one coffee and will shortly have another.

I would go home but I'm being very wary as I've had to take quite a lot of leave recently after returning from maternity, to care for my child who was in hospital (he's fine now), and now I've just stepped down to a four day working week. So I need to prove I'm committed to work.

I am kicking myself for being so dumb!

@TimeIhadaNameChange I need that liquid for my insomniac nights. Definitely not for work!

Usuallyinthemiddle - they just be over the counter but I can assure you they certainly don't wear off for me after an hour or two! If I take the full dose I still feel the effects the next morning. It's not a normal just woken up feeling but a drugged drowsiness. I usually just take half the recommended dose and that'll see me through the night.

whatadoofus - I first heard about Night Nurse who used it for that very purpose. If he knew he needed a good night's sleep he'd take a dose and it would knock him out for the night.

megletthesecond · 11/04/2019 15:10

You probably need to go home.
And don't drive FGS.

SheldonSaysSo · 11/04/2019 15:11

I have to say night nurse works wonders for colds etc. but it can you make you quite drowsy!! Hopefully it won't affect you for 8 hours like some people.

Bravelurker · 11/04/2019 16:43

Oh god, even the cheap Wilkos own brand knocks me out Confused.

whatadoofus · 11/04/2019 17:19

I certainly wasn't planning on driving, I don't even own a car.

Survived the day but the last meeting was very difficult. Feel like I'm just waking up for the day now on the tube home 😂

LOL@ just over the counter medicine and wears off after an hour- yeah okHmm it's a banned substance in some jobs as it affects ability to perform.

If you're just at a desk, lots of coffee and window open for some fresh air of possible!
