Would you move house round the corner to get a garden?

Lived in a big victorian terrace for 10 years. Love it apart from its only got a back yard. It’s sunny and has room for lean to greenhouse, bbq, seats. But I’ve filled it to overflowing with plants.

I have an allotment 5 mins drive away...

DH thinks that’s enough and can’t be arsed to move. Thinks we should wait till retire (10 years). I want a big garden to grow veggies in, plant fruit trees etc.

So house come up round corner with garden....

I'd move. Gardens and gardening bring immense pleasure to people who love to do it. Can't put a price on it.

And do it now while you are younger. You will then have the time to establish the garden and planting so when you are older you can sit in it and enjoy a mature garden.

I moved to a house next door once, as it gave me an extra bedroom, it was an end terrace with a bigger garden and with the garage and drive next to the house. It didn't cost much more than I sold my house for.

I’m a gardener with a small garden and I’d move for a larger one.

meepmoop · 11/04/2019 11:56

I would do it. I love the road that I live on and im waiting patiently for one of the bigger ones up the road a bit to go for sale

GiantKitten · 11/04/2019 12:19

meepmoop have you thought about impatiently putting a note through all the doors of the bigger ones asking to let you know first if they’re thinking of moving...?

RaininSummer · 11/04/2019 12:24

This sounds very much like my situation. I would jump at the chance I think.

For 10 years until retirement I'd move. If you were 2 or 3 from retirement I'd wait.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 11/04/2019 15:10

I defintely would and am patiently waiting for a similar opportunity to arise for us!

Singlenotsingle · 11/04/2019 16:40

Yes,. without a doubt. I'm sitting in the sunshine in our garden with the dogs atm. The only thing I want is a bigger garden. Do it now, otherwise the next ten years are wasted, and DH still won't want to move. He's probably hoping you will have forgotten about it by then. And who knows what will happen in that time? You might not be fit enough to enjoy it by then. Go for it.

You are only young once and if the opportunity has presented itself then crack on whilst you can

mosskatie33 · 11/04/2019 16:47

I definitely would move for a garden

BlueMerchant · 11/04/2019 16:52

I wouldn't. We have large garden. I leave it to OH to 'manage'.
I'd plant my seeds and veg in my allotment if I was so inclined.

Meretricious · 11/04/2019 16:54

Garden was beautiful. House, would be ok if we didn't already have a nice house....making DJ move to a less nice house because I want a garden is going to be a hard sell.

We’ve just moved 2 blocks to get a balcony (joys of city living). I would definitely do it, you can make the new house every bit as nice as your old house; personally I love a good project!

EnidButton · 11/04/2019 17:00

I have a garden and would love to live in a Victorian terrace...we could do a swop! Grin

I would definitely move in your case as I don't believe in putting things off. But I've been wanting to move for ages now and DH doesn't want to. Good luck with trying to persuade your DH. Give me tips if you manage to.
