Very small budget and don't want to buy in an awful area - just need a small flat - where should I look?

How small a budget is very small?

You'd probably be better off looking outside Newcastle and along the coast or South Northumberland, it tends to be cheaper but still has good transport links into Newcastle. Whitley Bay, Monkseaton, Cramlington, Seaton Delaval, Seaton Sluice, Seghill, Killingworth, etc. All nice enough areas and you can be in the town centre relatively quickly.

Fruityfruitcake · 10/04/2019 23:14

What budget? How many bedrooms?

brexitprincess · 10/04/2019 23:18

1 bedroom is fine. Less than 80k if possible but I'm worried about the area

Look at south or North Shields

brexitprincess · 10/04/2019 23:21

And if possible I'd rather have an older property.

South Shields is probably a better bet, although I don't know the area that well the property is cheaper (3 bed house same price in South Shields as a 2 bed flat in North Shields)

Maybe Wallsend but I'll be honest, the parts I've seen have been grim.

enjoyingscience · 10/04/2019 23:26

Ashington or Blyth might be a good bet. Accessible from Newcastle, and there should be plenty in your budget. You’ll get more than a 1 bed I would think.

How many bedrooms do you need OP? And do you need to consider schools? P

Cramlington. I think there's regular buses to Newcastle.

Vinorosso74 · 10/04/2019 23:33

Oops sorry Cramlington won't be good for older property.

These are some of the properties you could get in and around Cramlington for your budget.

Cramlington has got a shopping centre, bus and rail links into Newcastle with vague plans about connecting it up to the Metro system at some point, good schools (if that's a consideration), near to the coast, nature reserve on the doorstep, lots of leisure activities nearby, and an active local community.

Try the Dh3 3J(add another letter J to Q). Smashing little houses and right on the A1.

cantfindname · 11/04/2019 04:26

My Uncle lived in Ferry Hill. Smashing little terrace cottage, ex miners cottage. Bought very very cheaply. The area looks a bit run down but the people are amazing... lovely and friendly and look out for each other.

Can't get much cheaper than this: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71023027.html
