Dds teeth look yellow

Hi,

My Dd is 11 and is about to start the journey of having braces. Thing is her teeth are really yellow! She brushes twice a day and they aren’t dirty. It drives me mad and I don’t know what I can do? Is it normal? Thank you x

Very normal.
Yellow teeth doesbt mean they are dirty or weaker. Everyone had different shares of teeth.

some people just have naturally yellow teeth. when she's 18 she can have them bleached.

Children’s teeth can look more yellow, because the enamel is relatively thin on adult teeth when they first come through (it builds up over time). My son’s school photo last year makes him look like a 40-a-day smoker, his new front teeth were so yellow! They’re already looking better, but still yellowy compared to his remaining pearly baby teeth.

Mrsfrumble, i’m sorry but what you have written is absolute rubbish. The teeth errupt with the enamel fully formed it does not build up over time

DD has the same, including a yellowy tide mark across her front teeth. The dentist has said there are options to improve the look of her teeth after she's had braces.

My dds adult teeth are like this too. She's only 7. I'm very strict about what she eats and only drinks water. Feel bad for her, although she hadlsnt noticed yet.

Yeah, sorry, just checked dr google and it’s to do with the greater amount of dentin which is yellow and shows through the enamel, which is translucent. I did the frantic googling a few years ago when DS’s big teeth came through looking awful and remembered it was to do with either the amount of dentin or enamel. My bad Blush
Anyways, completely normal.

Yellow teeth are perfectly normal. Blue white teeth are a recent fad.

The teeth may be ‘hypoplastic’ - my daughter’s both have this and the eldest has been referred to the dental hospital as it can cause decay etc.

It is not lifestyle related - my dentist said it develops when the baby is developing in the womb - it may be because I had antibiotics during pregnancy as had bad urine infections in both pregnancies

I would push with your dentist as mine originally kept saying that they had too much fluoride ( which can strip the enamel) - but I have always made sure that they they have used the correct toothpaste and made this clear to the dentist.

My Ds actually has that on his back teeth. I will ask the dentist next week when she goes to get her brace! Thank you all xx
