I thought I'd go back and watch it after Leaving Neverland. I remember how controversial it was at the time. I had a two year old and I was really disturbed by how he treated the children. But what I've taken from it all these years later is what an out and out liar he was. He blatantly lies about his plastic surgery, he deliberately misinterprets situations. He's actually sociopathic. The dangling of the baby over the balcony would have been enough to finish off someone else's career.

How anyone can't believe that he was an abuser is astonishing to me. He was a manipulative liar. I was never a fan but I can't see how people stand by him.

People stand by him because otherwise they would have to confront the fact that they were fooled as well, along with confronting the fact that an artist they love is a paedophile. It's easier to paint his victims as money grabbers.

I remember this documentary and how bizarre it all was, completely agree with you.
Where did you watch it?

LucilleBluth · 10/04/2019 16:38

It's on YouTube

It's very interesting after Leaving Neverland. The man and his legacy should be wiped from the face of the earth imo.

Yes I also recalled his boldface lying on the Badhir documentary after watching Leaving Neverland. The look of contempt on his face he had when answering questions about his surgery- it was like the mask slipped a bit. And as for saying he hadn’t had his face altered....

captainprincess · 10/04/2019 18:27

Thanks, just rewatched it. I'd forgotten the kids with their masks and dangling the baby out the window!!
Yes, the blatant lying about plastic surgery is just iso weird, I mean he looks drastically different! Definitely interesting to watching after Finding Neverland.

Regarding the dangling baby incident I recall the nurse/nanny/staff woman in the background creasing up with laughter. Michael obviously had a lot of problems including possible addiction to painkilling drugs but what was her excuse for not doing anything to stop him or reacting with horror? There were also other presumably sane people in the room as he dangled the baby, who also did nothing.

That was half his probe ken, being surrounded by people, staff, hangers who were motivated by greed and wanted in on the money etc and would not help guide or help an obviously troubled man, giving him rise to believe his actions were ok.

Probe ken means problem

I imagine any staff member that objected would have been sacked, sadly.

Plus, all his staff had to sign NDAs, so how could they have spoken out?

Yes- what I remember most from this documentary is how often and how blatantly he lies throughout it. About things that can now be proven as lies (his drug use/ addiction/ and plastic surgery). Every lie he comes out with without even flinching. He comes across as sociopathic, but also very powerful and as a dangerous person to cross.

Martin Bashir knew exactly who MJ was, but that didn't seem to faze MJ one little bit. He knew he could twist the truth still, and did exactly that, and those who protected and enabled him are still doing that.

I'm just glad he is not still around to destroy any more lives.
